| THE COLONY NEWS | MARCH 2021 | 11 COMMITTEE NEWS By Jane Payne This month we have a lot of good news to share. COMPLETED TURF RENOVATION AREAS: We have completed this project, which was a large initiative started in 2015. G-13 was the last of almost 50 greenbelt areas, and the completion allows us more time to move on to other projects. REBATES: Upon completion of the areas, Anthony Reynoso has been busy filing for and following up on the rebates from SoCal Water Smart Rebate Program. The rebate application for G-13 of $56,008 has been completed and submitted. The total expected from all the rebates is $440,110, which has contributed toward funding the turf renovations. SLOPE RENOVATION: The slope renovation has started in W-13 and will be moving clockwise around The Colony. This project includes removing the long-leaf Acacia and adding some additional plantings. RENOVATING G-53: Located on the corner of Colony Dr. and Avenida Florita behind Calle Lampara, G-53 is currently a dirt lot with trees and a natural spring that goes under Colony Dr. from W-5 to the golf course. Last month, we had additional meetings and made a lot of progress on a landscape design for the area. We anticipate getting a proposal to the HOA Board in February or March and landscaping the area in the spring. KUDOS TO ENVIRONMENTAL CONCEPTS: EC has been working on activities to prepare The Colony for rain. These have included continual cleaning out of drainage ditches and regrading areas to eliminate the need for sandbags. The lack of any problems after the January rains demonstrated what a great job EC has done on these activities. CONGRATULATIONS: We would like to congratulate Luis Calderon, Landscape Superintendent Assistant on his well- deserved promotion to Assistant to the Facilities Maintenance Manager. Luis has provided outstanding service and demonstrated his dedication to The Colony and its residents. INFORMATION FOR NEW RESIDENTS: Last month, I described where you can get the current Landscape Standards and Guidelines, our normal maintenance schedule and what to do if you have landscape requests. This month I want to help you understand the most effective communication process. WHERE TO START? If you have a question or problem, your first contact should always be to our Landscape Department. Specifically, these should be directed to Anthony Reynoso, Landscape Superintendent at Anthony.reynoso@associa.us or (951) 677-4341 extension 211. He can answer your questions and give you advice on what to do. Anthony is the person to give you a quote on a change request or timing of a service request. He is the only person who directs the work of our Landscape Contractor, Environmental Concepts. If you skip this step, in the long run it could cost you more time. WHO IS THE NEXT CONTACT? Should you have an unresolved problem, you can take it to the Landscape Advisory Committee (LAC). Suggestions or issues should be addressed to me as Chair at janepayne3@verizon.net or (909) 455-2253. The LAC meets monthly and, among other topics, we address homeowner concerns. We don't make snap decisions and work hard to understand your situation, go see the area and prepare before we vote on a topic. If you don't agree with the LAC decision, you can appeal it to our HOA Board of Directors, the final authority. There are a large number of landscape requests, and fortunately very few issues actually escalate to the Board. Between the Landscape Department and the LAC, we can generally take care of homeowner's landscaping needs. LANDSCAPE ADVISORY Landscape & Tree Concerns For all landscape and/or tree issues, questions, or problems, call The Colony Landscape line at (951) 698-0731.
