28 | THE COLONY NEWS | MARCH 2021 | Men's Golf By Sam Currie, 461-0801 By the time this is in print, The Colony Men's Golf Club will have seen the first of its "away" series of tournaments held at other golf courses in the area. These popular tournaments are usually well attended by members and non-members alike. They are not held frequently, but the change of course provides us (some of us more than others) with a new challenge to our golf game! To start us off, our Tournament Director, Bruce Dalfonso, arranged a tournament at the Welk Resort in Escondido for the latter part of February. We will have more information and results in the April issue of The Colony News. Well, would you believe we've now had another of our players shoot lower than his age?! Congratulations go to Mel Rich (right), who shot a 79 on the Colony Golf Course on Feb. 3. Not at all easy, so well done, Mel! Want to join in the fun? Join The Colony Men's Golf Club by calling John Hoetker at 461-6758. CLUB NEWS By Linda Hardtke Kight, 319-0071 Well, friends, there isn't much to report – again! The courts are still open and in use. The nets on the paddle/pickleball courts have been replaced (hurrah!) and the HOA Board is in the process of getting bids to repair the surface of those courts. The Racquet Club Board has requested that the area referred to as the "kitchen" in pickleball be painted a different color as it is on all official pickleball courts. Hopefully, the courts will be ready to use when the weather is a little warmer and most people have received their COVID vaccinations. We are all anxious to get "back to normal." In the meantime, stay safe and healthy. Happy Saint Patrick's Day to you all! Racquet Club By Kathy Lewis, 412-0006 Would you like to socialize more in a safe environment? Would you like to increase your fitness level? How about meeting some new Colony residents? Come and join the fun sport of pickleball, where you will do all of these and more! Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the world and you can learn the basics of the game right here at The Colony. Beginner lessons are available mornings, afternoons and evenings. Please call me to schedule a lesson and join in the fun today! Pickleball
