| THE COLONY NEWS | MARCH 2021 | 3
By Del Mitchum, Director
As you read this, hopefully many of us will have received our COVID-19 vaccine shots and
2020 will soon be just a bad memory. Maybe soon we will be able to consider a road trip or
a cruise, or having people over for cards or a party. We all need to reconnect with the people
important in our lives.
Lately, our committees have been busy (on Zoom) to make progress on projects that have
been delayed due to COVID-19.
One big change that affects our HOA is the California law that allows anyone to build
another unit on their lot (ADU) or convert the garage to living quarters (JADU).
The Rules and Regulations and Architectural Committees will have to make some
modifications to accommodate these laws. In that process, we also have to consider the civil
codes of the City of Murrieta and Riverside County. We are not really happy with these
laws, but have to accept them.
Being back on the HOA Board has been interesting. Meetings on Zoom, trying to
provide residents with as many activities as the government allows and staying
current with our ongoing golf course litigation have been a challenge.
Moving to The Colony remains one of the best decisions we ever made. I am
happy to be back on the Board to help shape our collective future. I plan to do
whatever I can to keep The Colony the absolute best place to live in Riverside
County.
