SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | APRIL 2021 5 By Kim Walker, Board Member At the December Open Session Board Meeting, the SDV Board of Directors authorized the creation of a short-term Flock Camera Ad Hoc Committee. The purpose of the committee is to explore the feasibility and cost benefit of the Flock Camera System or other camera options to address the security needs of the Solera Diamond Valley neighborhood. Volunteer committee members are Steve Day, Kathy Bird, Ave Gordon, and Daniel Mendez. Tom Lontz and Kim Walker provide Board support to the group. Since its inception, the committee members have attended a Zoom presentation of the Flock System by sales representative Kyle Brown. Kyle provided the group with information about how the system works, its limitations, costs, and provided contact references for both the Hemet Police Department and another local HOA with the system already installed. The committee conducted a Zoom interview with an HOA Board member, Victoria, from an HOA located in Los Angeles County that has had the Flock System installed for three months. The neighborhood is not walled or gated, nor does it have a clubhouse or community swimming pools. There are 1,350 homes. They currently have 12 Flock cameras installed and plan to increase the total to 50 in the near future. Committee members also prepared a short, automated survey sent to all homeowners to solicit feedback of our current security and future expectations and ideas. Committee member Steve Day met by phone with Officer Matt Gomez of the Hemet Police Department. Officer Gomez is the lead officer for the Flock system for the Hemet PD. The Department has installed about two dozen cameras in and around Hemet, placed at locations that have traditionally been a police problem. These locations include residential as well as commercial areas. In approximately 18 months that the system has been operating, about 100 arrests have been made with the aid of the Flock cameras. Officer Gomez confirmed that the Flock system does not have facial recognition capabilities. The committee provided an interim report at the February Open Session Board Meeting. The final report to the Board of Directors on the Flock Camera System will be presented at the April 29 Board meeting. Flock Camera Ad Hoc Committee Mardi Gras Parade
