By Lynn Connors, Resident Kahlua's Story: In October of 2017, after the passing of our two dogs, we started looking to adopt another furry friend. While online we came across the I Care Dog Rescue website. We were searching the site when we saw a litter of four pom-chi puppies, three male and one female. The runt of the litter stole our hearts, his name was Peetu and was all of 2lbs 8ozs. We adopted him at the end of October, and he came home to join the Connors family of Terry, Lynn and Snuggie the cat. We renamed him Kahlua. For the first month or so when we took our daily morning walk on the paseo, Terry would carry him in his arms as he hadn't had all his shots, and he was so little. As he grew a little bigger and a few months older, he began his walk on a leash. He is now known to all as the Paseo Greeter; be it human or fellow dogs, he has to go up to everyone and tell them hello. The dogs in the community all know his bark and come running as he is telling all of them that Mom has cookies for them. We are so lucky to have gotten him! He is now three years old and is such a love and a wonderful companion. Pet Of The Month Interview 10 SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | APRIL 2021 By Linda, Weiss, Resident My mom was a single mom raising three children by herself. She worked very hard all her life, sometimes working two or three jobs at a time. I can never remember her complaining about anything. She gave us so many things of value that we never considered ourselves having to do without. She always told us that if you live a good life, be kind and generous with what you do have, you will never be poor. With the current atmosphere in and around our world right now and in our community, with people hurting people physically or with words and behavior because of race, difference of opinions, or just being different in some way, I wanted to share some of my mother's teachings. They brought me love and happiness. Dignity and integrity are the most important things. The more you have the more respect you get. Always tell the truth. If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember what the lies were that you told. Tell the whole truth; telling half the truth is lying. If you lose the game, get over it, smile, be kind and try harder in the next game. Don't say anything about a person you wouldn't want said about yourself. Speak kindly of other people, you don't know what they are going through. Always be courteous and kind to all people. It's free and they will most likely return the behavior. I could go on and on, but I can't remember them all. I hope my little story helps change the atmosphere in the world today. Even if it is just among the few people here at SDV that will read it. We all have to live together in peace and harmony to help make the world a better place for everyone. Things My Mother Taught Me PANDEMIC PROJECTS
