12 | THE COLONY NEWS | APRIL 2021 | COMMUNICATIONS By Greg Hill The Colony Communications Committee has been very busy during this lockdown. We are building a strong alliance with residents and a new vision for the future and our role in the Colony. We had the opportunity to spend time on Zoom with our technical consultant, Jake Hendrickson. We discussed the operational methodology of remote-control cameras, our ability to record a virtual performance special and the nature of our Colony website. Rita Nastri, leading the Outreach to History subcommittee, has created a submission document for the project which has been approved by committee members. We are hoping to begin interviewing longtime residents to preserve their memories of the early days of the Colony. A new subcommittee was created to be called the Virtual Performance subcommittee, chaired by Diane Frisby and including members Scott Christiansen and Ken Lukens. Their purpose will be to research the possibility of creating virtual performances to showcase the extraordinary talent and diversity of our performing Colony residents. We recently met with Jim Nash, former HOA director and member of the Finance Advisory Committee to get further understanding of the Colony budget process. Our new Creative Cloud software has been installed, and we are looking for someone in The Colony who has experience in using Adobe Photoshop. If you, or someone you know, can do this, please contact us at greg@neotechstudios.com. COMMITTEE NEWS By Rita Nastri, 698-8640 I bet that you have forgotten that the Communications Committee has established an Outreach to History subcommittee to archive stories, memories and pictures that relate to the start of The Colony. I haven't heard from many about helping out, so while we're waiting for the Clubhouse to reopen with a bevy of wonderful things to do, this is the ideal time to help on projects such as this. For those who are new Colony residents, it's a great opportunity to meet people and find out about your wonderful community. Many of the Founding Members of our community are no longer with us, so it is even more important that we preserve our history. We need all Colony residents to dig deep into their closets, drawers and shoe boxes. This subcommittee is looking for Colony artifacts, programs from events and performances, pictures, tapes, films, campaign posters, documents, maps and newsletters. We plan to continue the story to today. As Chair of this committee, I could use lots of help. I know there are many people who would be willing to help in any number of capacities, such as interviewers, photographers, audio experts, copy writers, copy editors, schedulers, historians, archivists and chronologists. Do you have a special skill that could transfer to one of these positions? This whole project could be lots of fun as we review old scrapbooks and remember ourselves and The Colony as we were and who we've become. We are looking to feature some of these stories, pictures, videos, etc., as a revolving post. Additionally, this effort may result in a book and/or a video documentary. Please contact me at 698-8640 to sign up. Outreach to History
