20 | OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2021 | The Pickleball Courts are shaping up, as the renovation continues with the new windscreens, painting of all areas, and updated signage to be posted, as the schematic has changed. The Bocce Courts have seen a good number of players accessing the reservation system; the recent rainy weather has caused some delay in play, but the courts have remained active. The Pool and Spa reservations will see an increase as the days stay lighter longer and the weather gets warmer. We are seeing more reservations during the day, which will likely continue with residents preferring to swim during daylight hours. We feel like the restrictions are beginning to loosen, hoping by the time this publication is distributed, the County/State will be back in the red tier. This will give us greater flexibility, opening the Fitness Center and considering the use of other areas for leisure activity. With continued interest to obtain vaccines here, Walgreens has called to tell us that this community is now officially registered and will be considered as an off-site clinic. The holdup seems to be a limited number of vaccines being made available. As soon as we are informed, we will notify the membership. Over the years, as Recreation Director, I have refrained from using the word "I," in my articles. The Recreation Department is about "WE," and the job "WE" perform together. This last year has been a culmination of sadness, confusion, fluctuating emotions, and pure determination. Flexibility has been our strength- together. And this includes the greater community of OHCC. All of us have been working together to figure out how to manage the challenges that have come our way. Not to mention, the challenges each of us have faced in our personal lives. We continue to want our world to change for the better, expecting current concerns will become distant memories and that our infectious hope will prevail. We have learned a great deal about supporting one another, continuing to show compassion and concern for others, along with taking each day as it comes. We have heard from many residents who have creatively figured out how their beloved activity could be supported, while following the current guidelines. Those who have weighed in include: The Billiards Club, the Library Club, the Papercrafting Club, the SERT Club, the Swim Club, and so on. Instructors are wanting to come back, including Christine, Leesa, and Cheryl. What we have all had to develop is a whole lot of patience. The waiting has been longer than one could ever imagine or even expect. ZOOM or not, we know that the membership is very anxious to access the Clubhouse and we wanted all of you to know that WE want our "peeps" back! We are grateful for the opportunity to serve this community.
