Harlan Coben April is known as the season of rebirth and hope. Flowers open, trees wear a new coat of green, and birds sing. The cycle of life begins anew. As I sit at my desk, my mind is suddenly diverted to a hummingbird attempting to build a nest. She carefully brings twigs and dried grass to the project, adding colorful bits of string or leaves found nearby. Finally, she perches herself proudly on the nest and lays her eggs. I watch this wonder of nature and feel new energy as I become involved in her journey to survive. In this COVID world where we are challenged to keep going, spring seems to offer new hope for a better life. My thoughts turn to our library and the wonder of books. Books have always been the great equalizers during difficult times. Wars, revolutions, and personal challenges are all within the pages of great books. They are not only our escape, but also the friends and teachers that lead us through these times. Without our innovative library staff, our isolated world would be even more restrictive. Each month, volunteers deliver books to members who request them. In addition, if a member wishes the library staff to purchase a new book, that book must be hard cover and released no later than January 2021. You can sign up on our website. Our president, Jean Hefler, is working on a plan to gain access, by appointment only, to our library once San Diego County allows indoor activities. We do need, however, the support of our members and ask that you renew your dues of $15 for the 2021 year. These dues provide the revenue to buy books each month. We thank you ahead of time for your support as well as your generosity in the past. We so hope you will join us by sending your check to Ellen Kippel (760) 305-7114. To all the new residents, we encourage you to look at becoming members of our Library Association. The perks are endless: free book check out, a wonderful environment to meet new people, entertainment by actors involved in Reader's Theatre Classes, celebrations of literature presented during the holiday seasons, and much more. Like the fortitude of the small bird, we are sure we will see a better year in 2021. We thank all of you for making it happen. May your hope be found on the wings of the hummingbird? ~ Sally Benton Library Association APRIL BOOK BUYS The Community Image and Marketing Committee The Community Image and Marketing Committee and the Landscape Committee presented recommendations to the Master Board at an open Town Hall meeting on March 3. The recommendations addressed enhancing the front entrance to the community. Both recommendations were well received by the community. Following the presentations, the Master Board tasked us with forming a sub- committee, consisting of members from both committees, to provide a joint recommendation. Since then, we have been working together to address all options for our final recommendation. In addition, the CIMC worked with our Maintenance Director on guidance for their on-going painting project at the Clubhouse, as well as the refinishing of the flooring in the Art Room. We also met with the Golf Club regarding sign placement issues. We worked with the Racquet Club to provide suggestions on new signage for the racquet sport courts. All in all it has been a very busy month. Our continued goal is to enhance and improve our community image, to ensure consistency of our message and protect home values. The committee welcomes all residents observations and comments. The members of the committee are Tom Murphy (Chair) twmmurphy@gmail.com, Jeff Mowers (Vice-Chair), Judy Caston, Christy Cooper, Christine Ross, Marcy Samoiloff and Nancy Trimino.
