FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2021 11 LILA BONNER "I have all of this energy, and I have to do something with it that I feel is productive," said Lila Bonner when asked why she wants to run for the Board again after running last year for a one-year term. "I really enjoyed the opportunity to be a leader, and I'm proud of the diversity of our Board and of our community. And after being on the Board for this year, I learned how a Board of Directors runs. It takes a year to learn what goes on with a Board and I'd like to be able to put what I've learned to work for a full two-year term." Although she might not have had prior HOA experience, Lila brought with her the knowledge and skills achieved with varied work and education. She has two Master Degrees — one in Business Administration and one in Psychology. She was a delegate and vice president of a large federation of municipal employees where she said she had honed her skills in negotiating, team work, reviewing contracts, policies, and ways to improve benefits. She also worked as a counselor where she feels she learned to be objective, empathetic, non-judgmental, and a very good listener. "I learned that being a Board member is very time-consuming. You have to be available at all times, and this year was somewhat complicated by the pandemic. We were frequently called to meetings to learn about and make decisions about the most recent change coming from the state, county, or city. But it's worth it. It's important to me to make a difference." Asked what she thinks are the main accomplishments of the Board over this past year, Lila answered quickly, "We hired a new security company that will improve our safety; we hired a new pool company that will service all three of our pools; and all of our landscaping is now being handled by just one company. Not only are these arrangements more efficient, they are also saving the Association money. We will save approximately $30,000 a year. "Additionally, we have increased our transparency. We now use the Daily Report to let the residents know our decisions and I make reports to my neighborhood. I think other Board members do the same. We have to be more creative while we are not allowed much face to face interaction. Of course, we must continue to maintain and increase transparency which improves trust and participation within the Association. "Our Board members work very well together. We are truly a team, and a very diverse team. I want to continue to keep Four Seasons Beaumont on the path of excellence. We must strive to improve driving safety, which is an ongoing problem. And we must continue to keep our Reserves funded at 100 percent or more, as they now are. "I am so proud to represent this community on the Board. And I love living here. It is so beautiful and the people are so interesting. No matter what, I will continue to serve. I am determined to put my knowledge, experience, and interests to work to help maintain and improve this paradise we call home."
