FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2021 55 Although I am loathe to count my ping pong balls before they hatch, with COVID numbers coming down, and three vaccines now available to fight the virus, I like the chances of The Courts Multipurpose Room reopening sooner than later to table tennis lovers throughout the community. With at least a year's layoff from most rigorous activity, doctors will advise you to start playing slowly and work up to pre-COVID levels. But with my 70+ year-old body being totally dominated by a 25-year-old brain, that will probably never happen. On day one I will be diving for Lian's smashes, trying to counter Mike's spins, and blindly hacking at Jeannine's chops. After 10 minutes, club members will be scraping my tired and withered body off the floor to drag me into the kitchen for rehab. I can't wait! Of course none of this will happen without all of us reaching deep to overcome our fears and work up the courage to get vaccinated to protect ourselves and our fellow FSTTC members. Since one must lead by example, I decided to bend the COVID site rules and have a photo taken (right) to illustrate the level of stoicism and steely resolve it takes to get through the first shot. You too can do this! Until then, stay safe, be cautious, and see you at the tables. ~ Bob Rubenstein, brube88@gmail.com Ping Pong We can feel that spring is in the air especially now that most of the players who are over 65 got their first shot. Some of us even got our second shot. With that said, we can look and approach each other in the court with less fear of the deadly virus as most of us are "protected." Recently a long lost player, Syed Ali, returned to the courts. He had a surgery about a year ago and from the way he is playing it looks like he has not lost his touch. March and April has some of the best weather for paddle tennis so we are looking forward to it. ~ Alan Chan, (310) 251-9269 Paddle Tennis Here we are again as another new month, April, begins. I hope that this article finds everyone happy, vaccinated, and in great health. Again, sadly as I write this article, there is not much new to report of any progress being made in the construction of our four new shuffleboard courts. However, a promise has been made to me that work will begin during the week of March 8. So it should be definite that by the time everyone reads their April issue of the Breeze, construction should be well on its way to completion. The only other thing that we have to be concerned about is getting approval to gather as a group to play. We are all hoping that this will be soon. I am anxiously looking forward to playing shuffleboard again with our great group of players. Any new people who want to join in to our fun activity, please contact me so that I can add you to our mailing list. ~ Marty Rotman, mrtmj@aol.com Shuffleboard Finally found a use for my ping pong paddle! Only the strong survive!
