This is the perspective of the artist of the month,
Micki Rosen: When I retired and moved to this
community, I was looking for something new to do. I
saw Rob Kelman's Art Class in the Breeze and decided
to give it a try. After seven years in class, I'm still loving
it and learning all the time. Rob is always encouraging
his students to try new things, so over the years I have
worked in graphite pencils, pastel pencils, watercolor
pencils, inks, markers, and most recently scratch board,
of which these two pieces are examples.
It's been fun getting to know which tools produce
which effect on the scratch board.
Getting started in Rob's class takes a minimal
investment in supplies; Rob will help you make a list
of what you need, and give you guidance you need to
get started. Don't worry if you've never drawn anything
before; Rob is an excellent teacher. It won't be long
before you will have created your first work of art- what
an amazing feeling!
The best thing about Rob's class is the encouragement
and energy I get from the other students. If you're
interested, come give it a try. I'll look forward to seeing
you there!
Classes are normally Mondays 10am to 12 noon
and/or Wednesdays 6 to 8 pm. Stay tuned for our
return to outdoor or indoor classes when permitted.
I still work online, texting or by phone with students
wanting feedback on their current masterpiece. Masks
are required and social distancing is implemented.
