32 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2021 | Yes, Virginia, there is a Sun Lakes Creative Writers group. You probably think the group meets once a year. That's only because of this virus thing. We used to meet the first Monday and second Wednesday of the month, except on rare holidays falling on those days. If you like to write, you should join us when we finally get to meet. To get on the list for notification when we become scheduled, you could call Roger Smith (yes, that's his real name) at (951) 769-2808, or if you are one of those techies try email at rlswriter@verizon.net. Perhaps once everyone gets a second shot of the vaccine, we could meet, wearing masks of course. More fun wearing masks though. It makes it easy to say sarcastic things anonymously. But someone is bound to say, "Who said that?" Then somebody else would shout, "Who said 'Who said that?' huh?" And it would go on from there. This piece was to include a photograph but since a photo is worth a thousand words and Lifestyles only allows 400: Sorry if you were looking forward to a photo. Anyway this notice is for writers. Wonder who counts all the words. It would be fun to keep typing until you hit the limit and stop dead in the middle of an important thought. Publishers are big on word count, more so than subject matter. Most short stories in the magazines seem to like 3,000 words, whereas most book publishers won't even look at your manuscript unless it is over 70,000 words. Obviously that is the reason so many writers repeat themselves or add pages of unnecessary descriptions. But not here. We've barely reached 300 so it's time to quit. Hopefully you've learned something new today. April showers! No, we have not fallen off the end of the earth! I know we've all missed Paisano and can't wait for all the clubs to open up again. We are looking forward to the time when we can be together to enjoy a great meal and fellowship as well as listening and dancing to the wonderful entertainment we have come to enjoy. Some have moved away including Jeri Wall who has moved to Montana to be near her son and family. She wishes she could have said good-bye personally. We will miss her wonderful skills at organization and her enthusiasm, but wish her well as she starts a new chapter in her life. We need an entertainment chairperson. Jeri will be glad work with you through the year until you feel comfortable (most work is done over the telephone). Contact Jeri at (909) 731-3311. Oh, yeah! Jeri's job as vice president needs to be fulfilled too (it's easy and part time). New members call Clark Robinson at (951) 797-0597. Be sure to continue to check Channel 97 for updates and Clark will be sure to get the word out. Paisanos Group
