4 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2021 | Message from the GM By Christopher Mitchell, CPA, CMCA, CCAM During April, we moved to the County's orange tier and we were able to open more of our facilities. This included in room dining, gym reopening and facilities opening for community meetings. The county coronavirus cases continue their decline which will allow us to move to Yellow Tier. Here are a couple of updates for the month of April. FOOD & BEVERAGE UPDATES The restaurant opened for indoor dining. We will look to expand our service levels on the Lounge and Veranda as we are able to staff up. There are some points I would like to clarify: • Per CDC guidelines, we are unable to put tablecloths, or any centerpieces on the tables. This is done for the health and safety of the members. • The bar can only be open for food and drink service. The state has not authorized indoor bars to open just for drinks. Therefore, we can only serve alcohol to tables that are ordering food. Once the County is in the yellow tier, the bar can be opened for drinking only. We are currently in the orange tier. • Opening the Sandwedge and Veranda can only be done with sufficient staffing levels to provide timely service. This requires staff. Yes, we do have a budget, but there are several factors inhibiting the ability to bring on competent staff: (1) Casino Morongo made a large push to hire at the same time we were recruiting. They effectively took a large portion of the local labor pool. (2) Unemployment benefits are still being paid. Several of the potential new hires we tried to recruit stated they made the same amount of income staying at home. (3) With childcare limited for some working families, potential candidates are required to address their family's needs before entering the labor market. INTERNAL REVIEW OF RESIDENT LANE STICKERS (RFID) Onsite staff and Community Patrol are performing an audit of the Resident Lane Access stickers (RFID's); This includes ensuring the RFID is correctly assigned to the member or vendor. They will also perform site audits at the gates to advise members who may have access issues. If you are experiencing issues with the resident gate access, please feel free to contact Leslie Harris at (951) 769-6649. She can attempt to reset the RFID. She can also assist with scheduling an appointment if you need to get a new RFID sticker. COMMUNICATIONS UPDATE In April, we had our first administration Update on Good Day Sun Lakes. I hope you enjoyed our program, and we are excited about bringing future updates to the Community. Also, we need your input for the new feature "Coffee with the GM." Besides a one- on-one interview hosted by Anita Lawrence, we will also pull some random questions submitted by the community from the "Good Day Sun Lakes Coffee Cup," as seen above. Please submit questions to: slccquestions@gmail.com Lastly, for this month's "DID YOU KNOW:" There is a process for rule changes that is driven by the Civil Code and by our Board of Directors. First, a proposed rule is brought to an open session Board Meeting for the Board to review, comment and approve a notice of a proposed rule change. Civil Code section 4360a, states that the notice of rule change must be done 28 days before making the final rule change. Further, the Board publishes the proposed rule in the Lifestyles magazine for 30 days. In essence there is an almost 60-day period from when the Board approves the notice of the proposed rule to the final approval or denial date. The Board will make this vote in an Open Session meeting.
