| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2021 | 63 Friends we will miss Franklin Delano Otten Franklin passed peacefully in the wee hours of Friday, February 5, 2021. He celebrated his 85th birthday on December 29, 2020. Frank is survived by his beloved wife Linda, three children (Eric, Lori and Gary) and eight wonderful grandchildren. Franklin grew up in Commack, NY. He attended Smithtown High School, HOFSTRA College and earned his degree from GENERAL MOTORS INSTITUTE , after which he proudly served in the US ARMY, always achieving Supernumery and the highest commendation for marksmanship. Frank and Linda were married August 31, 1958, and have celebrated 62 years of happiness. He built his own automobile dealership called OTTEN PONTIAC and quickly became a very successful "Master Dealer," always giving back to the community. Frank's passions were learning, reading, helping people and playing golf. His golfing career spanned 55 years and included many club, regional and state championships. Moving to Sun Lakes in 2008, Frank played "every day that ended in Y." He was a member of the Mens Club, Men's Executive, Saturday morning golf, Inland Empire Golf Assn, and captained men's "Team Play" several years. Frank also belonged to Sun Lakes Bowling, refereed and played Bocce. Frank was a jokester who loved to make people smile and could often be found helping someone in need. Of utmost importance to him was his deep love of family. We will miss his smile and laughter along with his kind and generous heart and will be forever grateful for the memories he created. Gaylord Spence Sun Lakes lost a wonderful member of the community when Gaylord Spence succumbed to pancreatic cancer. He was a great entertainer, a joyful friend and neighbor, and a beloved husband and father. Gaylord and his wife Diane were married for almost 60 years. He retired after more than 30 years in the food industry, rising from a route driver to management. He and Diane moved to Sun Lakes from Highland in July, 1999. Gaylord had a fabulous voice with an incredible range and sense of comedy. He was a member of Sun Lakes Playhouse, That's Entertainment, The Follies, The Sun Lakes Chorale, The Notables, and The Sun Lakes Barbershop Chorus. He played golf and served on the board of the Sun Lakes Men's Golf Club. He also played with the Executive Men's Golf Club and the Couples Golf Club. Gaylord was on the board of The Sun Lakes Charitable Trust and worked to put on Charity Week. He also enjoyed bowling with one of the Sun Lakes leagues. He put his heart and soul into all his endeavors, and his big smile and hearty laugh will be missed by all who knew him.
