House plants are the home décor staple that seems to never go out of style. Not only do they add to a homey aesthetic, they're good for your home as well. Did you know having indoor plants can improve your health? Indoor plants have been proven to help your immune system, boost productivity, improve relationships, even have a positive effect on your mental health. Wow — that's a lot of pressure to put on a house plant! So for your enlightenment, I have listed a few of the house plants known for cleaning indoor air. 1. Rubber Tree Plant - a natural humidifier. A study found it had been recommended by NASA as one of the best for cleansing the air. 2. Barberton Daisy - an effective cleanser of the toxins formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, and benzene, found in a range of household materials from paints to synthetic fibers. 3. English Ivy - particularly effective at reducing airborne fecal particles, which makes it the perfect air purifying plant for your bathroom or en-suite. In addition, studies have shown ivy can also help combat mold levels in the home. 4. Snake Plant or Mother-in-Laws Tongue - releases oxygen at night, helping you to breathe better while sleeping. It is one of the best plants for filtering the air of formaldehyde, xylene, benzene, toluene, and trichloroethylene. 5. Spider Plant - quietly battles toxins including carbon monoxide and xylene, a solvent used in the printing and rubber industries. 6. Broad Lady Palm - one of the few plants that can help reduce levels of ammonia found in a range of cleaning products. 7. Red Edged Dracena or Dragon Plant - trichloroethylene and xylene are among pollutants fought by this slow-growing plant. 8. Pothos, or Devils Ivy - keeps the air in your home clean. 9. Kimberly Air Fern - one of the most effective indoor purifiers. 10. Bamboo Palm - specifically famed for removing formaldehyde from the air.
