| THE COLONY NEWS | MAY 2021 | 29 Jack & Jill Men's Golf By Judy Lebovitz, 461-0065 I hope everyone had a good holiday and is ready for the spring weather and good golfing. The ladies of the 18-hole Group began our Club Championship, which takes place the first two weeks of April, and I hope they all did well. Now that things are opening up a bit, we are hoping to start having our monthly luncheon meetings again. We are planning a Charity Tournament later this year. This is the event to which we invite friends to participate, with all the monies going to our two charities, Michelle's Place and Hospice of the Valley. It's always a lovely day and such a good feeling to be able to donate to these two worthwhile organizations. The Back Nine ladies play different games once a week. We hope you will consider joining us – we have a great group of women and have lots of fun! If you are interested, please contact our membership chair, Maureen Herzberg, at 677-4717. Ladies Golf By Sam Currie, 461-0801 April tends to be one of our more active months and this year is no exception with our annual Club Championship being played and an "away" game in Menifee being held. Our Club Championship is one of our premier events of the year, being a three-day event which allows for two champions, one for the lowest gross score and one for lowest net score. The winners not only receive trophies but cash prizes too! Due to the pandemic the previous Championship game was held back in September of 2020. Can the winners of that 2020 tournament, Mike Basel and John Hoetker, do it again? Check out the upcoming June Colony News for the results. With regards to our tournament at Menifee Lakes Golf Course, these 'away' games are always popular, but this level of interest has been exceptional, with 40 players signed up for the scramble format. These games are a lot of fun but make no mistake, there's a lot of competition for those bragging rights and, did I mention, the prize money! This is the second year in a row that our March event had to be canceled because of the weather. DARWIN AWARDS – Unclaimed The next contest is set for May 13 and will be our Regular Scramble. As with all Jack and Jill events, you DO NOT have to be a member of either the Men's or Women's Golf Clubs to play. Just pick up your sticks and join us for the fun and friendly competition.
