As more of us get vaccinated against COVID-19, our Dance Troupe members are chomping at the bit to get back to our classes. We hope that this month will see us back in the Mykonos room practicing our dance routines and getting ready to put on our performance that was originally planned for June 2020. When we know that it is possible to fill the AB Hall, we will reschedule the performance so that we can share our joy of dance with the community. A dance performance like the one we are planning takes a lot of people working hard. Aside from the dancers, who put in many hours of practice, we ask others outside of our Troupe to help. The Audio/Visual club does a fantastic job on the music, video backdrops, and lighting, as well as recording the performances for viewing on the community TV channel. They are always there to help us make our performance as professional as possible. In addition, we have Charline Kenney, our stage manager, who with her crew keeps the numbers moving smoothly through what might look like chaos. We also have several ladies who help the dancers with their multiple costume changes. Depending on the number of dances a dancer is in, she could have six or seven different costumes with sometimes only two or three minutes per change. There are also the ushers, ticket sellers, refreshment servers, curtain managers, and set up crews who do their part in making the evening entertaining for our guests. And, of course, we could not even begin without our teachers. Yvonne Romano teaches us jazz and tap, and choreographs for the men's and couples' dancers. Kailani Andreotti teaches the Hawaiian dancers, and Sharon Lair leads the belly dancers. The Dance Troupe welcomes new members whether you are new to dance or have experience. We have classes in jazz, tap, Hawaiian, and belly dancing. If you are interested in tap or jazz, please contact Allison Stewart at als2art@gmail.com. If you are interested in Hawaiian dancing, please contact Valerie Thompson at valgene2@ cox.net. If you are interested in belly dancing, please contact Sharon Lair at (760) 822-2670. 14 | OHCC LIVING | MAY 2021 | Ocean Hills Dance Troupe
