Founders Duplicate Bridge Friday Duplicate Bridge We are beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel. The CDC says that fully vaccinated people can gather with other vaccinated people indoors without wearing a mask or social distancing. Hopefully one of the rooms at the Clubhouse will soon be available for bridge play. The CDC statement implies that NON vaccinated people cannot join. In previous issues we described Larry Cohen's convention recommendations. He favors the most useful conventions in an A, B, C, and D list. The D list is comprised of the following: Lebensohl, Drury, Inverted Minors, and Splinter Bids. Most of us are comfortable with his A and B list. The C list conventions are useful but do not occur frequently. The above described D list is probably beyond the usefulness of the intermediate player. Larry writes "Honestly, I think it would be counterproductive for 99% of players to go any further than this. The memory strain is not worth it. Someone once said, the Road to Hell is Paved with Good Conventions." To learn more about this subject go to Larryco.com and click on Learning Center. We offer a Duplicate Bridge game that combines the superior scoring of Duplicate Bridge but also has the friendlier and non- aggressive attitude of home style Rubber Bridge. With Duplicate Bridge, your true opponents are the pairs that hold the same cards as you would rather than your opponents at the table. We are not an ACBL game and for that, we not only offer an extremely reasonable game price of just $2, but also give cash awards to the winners. If you are interested, please call John Gates at (760) 295-5885, the president of this bridge club, to see if this type of game might meet your expectations. We are relatively small and have anywhere from five to eight tables. The games are at 1 pm on the second, fourth, and fifth Fridays of the month in Mykonos. You do not have to join this club to play your first game; however, if you decide to join, the annual dues are $6. 38 | OHCC LIVING | MAY 2021 | Ask about our OHCC discount!
