SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | MAY 2021 15 By Clare Mendez, Resident What have you been whipping up in the kitchen this past year? I grab inspiration from cookbooks, magazines, websites and television shows. Often I don't have all the ingredients on hand so I have to improvise. Some combos work and some don't. However, while watching a lot of food shows this past year, it's obvious that to make a sandwich (or any dish for that matter), over-the-top unique and delicious, it's all about the sauce. Take for instance the "Big Mac" has its "special sauce" (which tastes a lot like a mayonnaise and ketchup mix), or In 'N Out's burger sauce which, in my opinion, is very similar to Thousand Island dressing. What are fries without ketchup? Pasta without Alfredo? Wings without Ranch dressing? It's the sauce that is truly the main event of every good meal. The Heinz Company seems to agree, because the brand has come out with some unlikely sauce pairings. Their lineup will now include flavors such as Wasabioli, Hanch, and Tarchup. You've already heard of their Mayochup and Mayoracha which blends mayo with ketchup and sriracha respectively, but these new combos might be a little less predictable. If you aren't able to decode their ingredients based on their names: Wasabioli blends spicy wasabi and garlic aioli, Hanch is made with hot sauce and ranch (sounds perfect for on top of pizza), and Tarchup is a mix of tartar sauce and ketchup. Hanch could definitely go on pizza and Tarchup on fish and chips. I'm thinking Wasabioli would go great with egg rolls or teriyaki chicken bowls. Do you have your own wild combo you put on your sandwiches? At the moment, these Heinz innovations are only available at select grocery stores in Canada, but will most likely make their way to the United States either in someone's car or grocery store soon.
