22 | THE COLONY NEWS | JUNE 2021 | By Kara Hardy, Activities Director; kara.hardy@associa.us KARA'S KORNER FREE VERMICOMPOSTING VIRTUAL WORKSHOP SERIES • Thursdays, June 3 - June 24, 6 to 7 pm: Vermicomposting (worm composting) is an environmentally-friendly way to turn your food waste into nutrient-rich castings for your plants or garden beds. This method is great for those who don't have a lot of time to devote to building a compost pile or are home or apartment dwellers without much outdoor space. You can even keep your worm bin inside! Learn how to DIY your own worm bin, start composting with red wiggler worms, and harvest your nutrient-rich castings to use in your garden or houseplants. Each part of the four-part webinar series builds upon the previous offering and provides time for live Q&A at the end. To register for all four workshops or to attend several sessions à la carte, please sign up at http://bit.ly/30wzaoW. DEMENTIA & ALZHEIMER'S SUPPORT GROUP ª Thursday, June 10, 10 am: Presented by Kristi Necochea, this group educates and supports those who are caring for a loved one with a dementia diagnosis. Hello, Colony residents! I still have some seed kits left! I have an abundance of vegetable seeds, and I would love to share them with you. Some of these seeds I have collected from my own garden and some come from my LARGE collection of seeds. There are 30 seed kits, all of which include over 15 varieties of organic veggie seeds (for beginners AND experienced gardeners). If you would like to pick up a seed kit, please contact our Activities Director, Kara Hardy (951-677-0541 or kara.hardy@associa.us), while supplies last. Happy gardening! ~Katie Burchard, Colony Staff Member From My Backyard Garden to Yours
