SULLIVAN'S
TRAVELS
By Kathy Sullivan
I belong to a photo group in Temecula, the
Inland Empire Photo Club. The club is open to
everyone, from the phone photographer to the
people with the big full frame DSLRs. We meet the
first Thursday of the month for a general meeting
with guest speakers and the third Thursday of
the month for an educational night. We also meet
once or twice a month for photo excursions. One
of the first excursions after Covid let up was a late
afternoon and evening trip to Balboa Park in San
Diego. I really couldn't understand why I wanted
to go to Balboa Park, but I was happy to be doing
something different.
To my delight, I had a wonderful time walking
around the Park. For something close to home, it
is amazing that I have never taken the time to just
visit the park. There is so much to see and do. Do
you know that in addition to the zoo, there are 17
museums, a theater, an organ pavilion, amazing
architecture, restaurants, gardens, fountains,
street performers, people watching – and even a
dog park?
At right are some of the images I took at Balboa
Park during the afternoon and evening. After
dark, the park lights up with all types of colored
lights. It is magical! The bottom photograph is
taken from Prado Bridge, a time exposure of the
163 freeway and the nightlights of San Diego. So
special while I was photographing the scene was
the big jet airplane that crossed in front – thus the
dots and dashes!
