| THE COLONY NEWS | JUNE 2021 | 29 CLUB NEWS Jack & Jill Men's Golf By Sam Currie, 461-0801 It was great being able to hold our annual CMGC Club Championship tournament in its normal spot this year, namely in April, and the weather cooperated beautifully over those three days! Last year because of COVID-19 restrictions, we had to delay the tournament until September. This tournament has a storied history, having begun in 1990 and having been played every year for these past 30 years. Since it's played as an 'individual stroke' tournament and generally under SCGA rules, it is a good test of a player's ability. To make it more open to players of higher handicaps, there are two champion spots, one being for low gross and the other for low net score. So, congratulations to the champions of 2021, Mike Basel and Billy Brown! By Dennis Murphy, 461-0457 Our "Pick Your Own Foursome" event for April 8 was a resounding success. We had the highest participation rate for our tournaments since February 2020 when we were hit with the Coronavirus. Fourteen foursomes composed of 56 golfers participated for the two first-place positions in this A and B Flight competition. This is always a spirited and hotly contested event. The temperatures could not have been better for the event – in the high 50s at tee time to the high 70s at the completion of our competition. Issue: After the cancellation of the March event, players were notified to "retrieve personal checks for prize $$ or they would be shredded by our CFO." The twosome failed to retrieve their check, hence it was shredded. The twosome failed to submit $$ for the April "Pick Your Own Foursome" event, assuming the CFO would carry over their March prize $$ checks! Failure to follow written instructions and requiring last minute foursome realignments by our CFO, COO and CEO, Malcolm and Sherry easily qualified for the April DARWIN AWARD! Next Contest: Set for June 10 will be our "A & B Format." As with all Jack and Jill events, you DO NOT have to be a member of either the Men's or Women's Golf Clubs to play.
