| THE COLONY NEWS | JUNE 2021 | 3 I wrote a similar article a little over a year ago, and since we have 247 new residents from January 2020 to March 2021, I think it is worth posting this information again. But first, welcome to all our new residents. I am so sorry that you have not been able to experience the full benefits of our community due to the pandemic. But soon, I hope! I am the Board Liaison for the Access Control and Safety Committee. Every month thousands of guest and service vehicles enter our front gate, along with several hundred golfers. These people have access to your property. Yes, we try to be safe by only letting those people enter our community who have been authorized by you. With the thousands of guests and service vehicles entering our community each month, please be vigilant and lock your doors. Our Night Patrol reports many garage doors are left open at night. The Patrol officer calls the residents to remind them to close the door, but many do not answer their phone! What if you also left the door from the garage into the house unlocked? SURPRISE? A resident told me that he woke up one night to find a man standing at the foot of his bed. The man did not know who he was or where he was. Yes, we do have trespassers occasionally who take a shortcut through The Colony. They are, of course, escorted off the property by a Patrol Officer. We have cameras at our entry gates. I showed a film from the Cal Oaks Gate camera at one of the Board meetings – two young adults climbing over the fence. It's important to know that anyone can walk into our community or under or over fences and walls. Please know that this is not intended to scare anyone, but to make you more aware. Be careful and be safe in your home. Lock your doors and windows when you are not home. The only things that window screens keep out are FLIES! Also, please remember to check that your garage door is closed every night before you go to bed! In closing, I would like to say "thank you" to my Colony friends and neighbors for voting for and supporting me during my 13 years on the HOA Board of Directors. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve our community. From the HOA Board of Directors By Mary Ann Plummer, Director
