This is the perspective of the artist of the
month, Mike Zehner: My wife Andrea and
I have been attending Rob Kelman's Mixed
Media Art Class for a couple of years. We love
to see the progress that Rob has helped students
make. Rob is quite a diverse and gifted artist;
he has the ability to guide his students in
different aspects of art media. He has definitely
helped me with watercolor and acrylics.
My undersea world painting is done in
acrylics, a new medium for me to paint in. My
reference photo was one turtle among some
out-of-focus coral. I liked the image of the
turtle itself, but it seemed lonely, so I just added
the second turtle. Next, I looked up images of
fish, coral, seaweed and sponges to add more
interest to the painting.
This is something that I picked up from
Rob's instruction. He always tell us, "it's your
painting, don't be afraid to take charge!"
I encourage you to check out this fun and
educational class even if you don't feel that you
have the talent. I know that you will surprise
yourself and maybe discover a new passion in
life as we have.
Classes are Mondays 10 am to 12 noon and/
or Wednesdays 6 to 8 pm. in the Arts & Crafts
Room in The Lodge. There is a nominal $5 fee
per person, per session. Masks are required
and social distancing is implemented in each
