FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2021 61 Over the past year, long-time club members Howard Lyon and Bob Howard retired from motorcycle riding. No longer having both Howard and Bob joining us on our weekly rides was a bit of an adjustment given that they were both founding members of our club. We could always count on Howard and Bob to kind of take turns organizing and planning many of the club's multi-day rides. As a way of recognizing their contributions to the club, we were planning on honoring them at our annual club dinner and we kept hoping that COVID social gathering restrictions would soon be lifted and allow for scheduling the dinner. Well, we all know how that turned out. So President Terry Humble came up with the next best alternative. He decided to have a group of the club's members ride to the homes of both Howard and Bob and make a surprise visit. With a group of club members' motorcycles all lined up in front of their homes, Howard and Bob were presented with beautifully framed photos of each of them. It was just our way of letting them know how much the club appreciates all that Howard and Bob did for the club. Hey, Howard and Bob, thanks again; we miss you! Last month we reported that planning for a ride to Ojai was in the works. Our plans are finalized and in a few days Terry Humble, Jim Ayala, Joe Bert, Scott Snyder, and Tim Mixon will head out for the three-day ride. Day one will take us to Ojai, day two will be a day ride to Jalama Beach (near Lompoc) and day three will get us back home. Next month we will have much more to say about how the trip turned out. The Ojai ride will be the last multi-day ride before the weather starts heating up. Over the hot summer months we will limit our rides to our weekly Thursday rides (except for some of those days when it's just too darn hot to ride). However, we are already looking ahead and planning our annual ride to Jacumba (a tiny town along the border about 80 miles east of San Diego) which we schedule annually for sometime in the fall. We are also already talking about where we want to go for our first multi-day ride for 2022. For now, we think this will take place sometime in May and Arizona seems to keep coming up in our discussions. Stay tuned. If you ride and are thinking about joining the club, just know that we are a group of motorcycle enthusiasts who just enjoy the camaraderie of group riding. Also, we aren't picky about what you ride. Our members' rides include Harley Davidson, BMW, Yamaha, Honda, and Victory. If you want to learn more about the club, give us a call. You can speak with President Terry Humble (909-706-2298) or VP Jim Ayala (951-392-6259) or Secretary Joe Bert (909-767-1484). ~ Jim Ayala Motorcycle Club Bob Howard receiving an award from the MC recognizing his contributions to the club Howard Lyon receiving an award from the MC recognizing his contributions to the club
