FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2021 9 Do you have a passion for helping others? A new kitchen opened last month in San Jacinto where there is great need, said Cindy Connors. Only a member of the group for nine months, she jumped into big responsibilities taking on two kitchen managerial positions and cooking on different days. She really enjoys people. After working in Special Education as a career, she found she needed to find an outlet for ways to continue helping others after she retired. She said, "I have a heart, a passion, that needs to keep busy helping people." Cathleen Allen worked right through the COVID restrictions finding that the shutdown gave her time to volunteer, making sack lunches for the needy who came to the door in Cabazon. She finds that twice a week for five hours is rewarding. "First of all, I feel an extraordinary reward in just being there and contributing my time. The volunteers are wonderful, and I feel like we are a little family on any given day. We are all working toward the same goal and that is to prepare the hot meals, donated groceries, and clothes for those who are in need. The volunteers are greatly appreciated by the staff. It's just such a feel-good experience for me." Linda Miller who joins the dozens of Four Seasons residents who volunteer said, "We offer them an ear when they need it, and sometimes offer suggestions or put them in touch with others in a position to give them a step up. Without other's help in this world, where would any of us be? I just hope and pray that through Carol's Kitchen I'm able to touch our guests' lives as much as they have touched mine." As Dave Whalen said, "I felt like I needed to payback, to do something for others." And he did! Volunteers are needed! If you're interested in helping, please call Ann Blair at (909) 568-8120. Dan Hazeltine said, "My neighbors Jerry and Cheryl Diego mentioned it to me and it seemed a good thing to do. I spend only five hours each week there. The greatest reward for me, besides the camaraderie with the other volunteers, is knowing I'm part of a group that makes a real difference in our communi."
