Six months into the year and with any luck, Riverside County will have met the criteria to fully open everywhere and everything. If so, we look forward to the Fourth of July activities, ice cream socials and the Sun Lakes Charity events. The YCC Board and membership actually met in-person on May 12 at the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Non-members are invited to attend and try us out. YCC generally meets the second Wednesday of every month at 7 pm, at the Main Clubhouse. Hopefully we will soon meet at the South Clubhouse. Watch SLCC media for event announcements. This month, due to a schedule change, our free event will be on the third Thursday, June 16 at 7 pm in the Main Clubhouse. The YCC Board will present the CEO of San Gorgonio Hospital, Steve Barron, as a speaker. The Medical Board appointed Mr. Barron as permanent CEO Nov. 5, 2019, after he served as interim Director for two years. We hope that you will find out some interesting and exciting facts about this important facility. Mr. Barron spent forty years in the industry. He was formerly a CEO at St. Bernardine Medical Center in San Bernardino. He also worked with Epic Management. Under his watch, many things have been accomplished. Come find out the important information about your community hospital. Hear about its innovations, construction projects, improved relationship with Beaver Medical Group, enhancement of services, and more. If you would like to take advantage of all the events for the next 12 months, YCC annual dues are collected by July 31 of each year. Please make checks out to the Yiddish Culture Club. Bring the membership form and check to a meeting or deliver to Diane Berley of membership. Contact her for any questions you may have. The Board has proposed a dues change to $20 per person for the year, as this will cover anticipated increases in food, labor, and entertainment costs. The membership shall vote on the matter at the June 16 meeting. Membership forms will soon be placed in the rack at the Main Clubhouse lobby and forms are emailed to existing members. A little Yiddish Club Culture: Hebrew and Yiddish are languages spoken by Jews all over the world. While Hebrew is a Semitic language (subgroup of Afro-Asiatic languages) like Arabic and Amharic, Yiddish is a German dialect which uses many Hebrew words but with a very distinctive Ashkenazic pronunciation.
