Our mixers continue to be held on the first Saturday of each month. All Sun Lakes residents are welcome to participate. Our next mixer will be Sat., June 5, 8:30 am is Skills Session, 9:15 am is Mixed Doubles. Thank you to Pat Carter, Daryl Barton and Phil Hazelton for helping us gain basic skills. On May 22, we had our quarterly meeting and a potluck. Due to the timing of this submission to Lifestyles, a report from that meeting is not able to be included. Tennis Club members will be informed as to decisions made immediately following the gathering. An anticipated schedule of 2021 Tennis Club activities and events is expected to be highlighted. Phil Hazelton offers this tip that has to do with the serving motion. He says, "The serving motion is just like the throwing motion. There ought to be a rotation of shoulders towards the opposite court." Then, Phil adds, "Remember in doubles it's 'placement' over 'power' for best results." And, "Always keep your eye the ball and the fun in your game." Tennis 54 54 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2021 | | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2021 | Friday mornings, 9 am in the North Clubhouse. Cost is only $5 per week (or $20 per month). Tai Chi (Tie-Chee) is an ancient Chinese tradition that, today, is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Originally developed for self-defense, Tai Chi has evolved into a graceful form of exercise that's now used for stress reduction and a variety of other health conditions. Often described as meditation in motion, Tai Chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements. The tradition of Tai Chi dates back to at least the 15th century in China, and the practice is based on the belief that balancing the opposite forces in the body (known as yin and yang) will encourage the flow of chi (energy) through the body to promote health. You may also find Tai Chi appealing because it's inexpensive and requires no special equipment. Tai Chi can be done anywhere, alone or in a group class. If you're looking for a way to reduce stress, consider Tai Chi and join fellow Sun Lakers in developing strength in balance, stamina, and flexibility. Info, Dee Coughtry, (951) 381-4919. Tai Chi
