June is bustin' out all over. Springtime in San Diego means
ART ALIVE at The San Diego Museum of Art. With 100+ floral
interpretations of masterworks of art and four flower-filled days of
events, Art Alive returns for its 40th year. Some of our members will
be carpooling to Balboa Park on the weekend of June 17-20, 2021.
Our April 7 trip to Fallbrook was delightful. We enjoyed the
Fallbrook Art Center's 12th Annual Signature American Watermedia
International Exhibition featuring 120 works by renowned
watermedia artists from around the world. As usual, the paintings
are awe-inspiring.
A guided visit to the Veterans' Art Project's Foundry followed.
The metal fence along their property is adorned with intricate metal
designs. We were fascinated with the various projects the veterans
create, from metal sculptures, bronze heads, and hands and even
horses fashioned from strips of corrugated cardboard. Some of
the Vets' bronze castings of heads and hands were featured at the
Oceanside Museum of Art in 2017. VETART.org is dedicated to
veterans and their families, providing a powerful tool for educating
the broader community about veterans' issues through creative arts
with an emphasis on mental health and wellness for veterans, active-
duty, family members, caregivers, and community members.
A late June car trip to the Oceanside Museum of Art is in the
planning stages. Featured shows in June are: Twenty Women Artists:
NOW; Mark Bryce: Love and War; and Taylor Chapin: Consumption
Capital. We are looking forward to this visit to OMA.
