Judy Harris and Lainy Vinikow are delighted to welcome you to the creations of this month's featured artist, the very talented Karin Leszinski. Karin tells her story: I was born in Nuremberg, Germany in 1942 and that is where I met my husband, Harold. We married in 1963 and moved to different countries, following Harold's career path and getting to know other cultures and languages. We lived in Madrid, Spain; Brussels, Belgium; and Reading, Massachusetts – returning to Germany after each stay. Our son was born in 1964 and our daughter in 1967, in Germany, and grew up with different languages and school systems. In 1977 we moved to Geneva, Switzerland – an international city and beautiful region on a lake near mountains. Skiing, hiking and boating were our main family activities. When both children had left to attend universities in Boston, and with Harold busier than ever building his career, I looked for an occupation. I started to build houses – for us and for sale – and began painting on porcelain. After every cup and saucer in our house was decorated, I went on to transparent watercolor painting. Having moved away from Geneva in 1990, we lived at Lake Konstanz at the Austrian border, but Geneva attracted us back after 10 years. With my painting friends from Geneva, I spent two weeks every fall for 25 years in Provence, France doing landscapes and still life in watercolor and pastel. The desire to be closer to our children and grandchildren made us leave Switzerland and come to Ocean Hills in 2013. This is where I joined the Art Lovers Club and now paint in oil exclusively. My paintings are mostly travel memories after photos taken during our trips. We look forward to a full display of art in the Art Studio in the near future.
