20 | OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2021 | We are halfway through the year and we are waiting to hear if we can open up this beautifully renovated Clubhouse, finally. Each change brings us closer to getting us back in full swing. We are excited and we are anticipating the arrival of the membership, in full force, once again. To think where we were a year ago and now, reality is dictating that event plans need to be made if we want to fill the Recreation calendar. The reservations are coming in, the paperwork for the rest of this year and 2022 is being distributed, with due dates listed for submissions. Please direct any questions to the Event Coordinator's office. The Lanai Canopy is going up on Tues., June 1 and dismantled on or around Oct. 4. We are currently taking reservations for its usage. The Oceanside Fire Department will give us the go ahead, with a permit to use. There will be two-walled sides and water barrels for securing the corners. If the weather is right and with the moon at night, we are looking forward to a beautiful summer. Last year, the Recreation Department hosted a 4th of July Golf Cart Parade for OHCC with little time to organize, the community supported the endeavor with an outpouring of enthusiasm. Typically, for the newcomers, we have hosted a dinner party by the pool. But with not knowing the future regarding the guidelines we were hesitant to make that commitment. In order to plan for an event to include catering, a band, and décor, one needs to have a number of participants to make it viable and we are unsure whether this would be supported, at this time. This year we plan to bring back the 4th of July Parade to be held on Sat., July 3, at 10 am. Each entrant will receive a prize. We had over 70 entries last year and we hope to have as many as that this year. Please call the Front Desk at (760) 758-8772 to register. Come out and enjoy the patriotism. Maps will be made available of the designated route. At this time, the Fitness Center Rooms remain the only areas that require a reservation. Only residents are able to access the rooms and that is the case year-round. Sanitizing supplies are available in each room for users to take advantage of while working out. We hope to have our fitness trainer come back to show those interested how to use the equipment. Athletic attire and shoes are required. The Pool and Spa are completely open. An updated schedule is on the website of the various activities that go on throughout the week. A trial is being conducted to add more lap swimming time in the afternoon, but without the use of the lane lines. Several residents have requested changing the times for the various activities. The Swim Club has been involved in the discussion and have gone to the Community Services Committee to review. As of yet, there have been no changes to the current rules, regarding any of the suggestions presented. In respect for others, be mindful of the following: shower before entering, share the lanes and move over, if you can do so, to allow others to enter and exit the steps. Bandages and open lesions, of any kind, are not permitted while swimming. Water containers are acceptable but no glass. Food is to be consumed on the Palm Court or outside of the pool areas. And the best one of all is: Swim with a smile! Staffing has remained stable through this challenging time. Although, we will say good-bye to one of our Facilities staff members, Jose Muro. Jose worked the afternoons/ weekends, and he has accepted a new and exciting opportunity. We wish him our very best! The Community Services Committee (CSC) has taken an interest in following up on the "Safe Medication Disposal" topic. The local Walgreens on Cannon has a kiosk - much like dropping a letter into a mailbox - for individuals to dispose of their unwanted, unused, or expired over the counter and prescription medications, including controlled substances, at no cost. It is located in the back by the pharmacy during regular pharmacy hours, year-round. The guidelines for COVID are changing moment by moment. We just heard about a new change regarding masks, and hopefully, by the time this comes out we will be including this into our protocol. We appreciate your continued patience. We are looking forward to the Clubhouse grand opening when residents and their guests have full access, soon, very soon! Happy Father's Day to all our OHCC dads! "Fatherhood is the greatest thing that could ever happen. You can't explain it until it happens — it's like telling someone what water feels like before they've ever swam in it." ~ Michael Bublé Recreation News By Chris Bessey, Recreation Director
