By Gloria Brosky, Jodi Harris & Diane Schultz Thank you! Our community and ACC would like to thank the many homeowners who are maintaining, beautifying and taking pride of ownership! We so appreciate your efforts. Home Improvements: Another "thank you" goes to the many who follow the proper steps when turning in an application. Here is a review of the steps. 1. Fill out the correct form legibly. 2. Refer to the ACC guidelines for height, size or color requirements. If you are doing a repaint of doors or shutters only, please include your current stucco color. 3. Include a photo of the front of your house, which is needed to verify that this is the house where the work will be completed. 4. The ACC meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. To make the meeting agenda, your application must be turned in by noon the Friday before the meeting. If it is not received by the deadline, it will not be reviewed until the next meeting. 5. After review, you will receive notification from the HOA that your application is approved and you may proceed with your project. 6. After completion of the work, call the office to notify them the project is completed and ready for final inspection. PLEASE do not call and say the work is complete if it is NOT completed. The ACC are volunteers. Going out to do a final inspection on a project that was never begun is a waste of our time. According to Section 14.5 of the Architectural Standards, home improvements made without an application are subject to a monetary compliance assessment. If improvements are made that do not meet the guidelines, the homeowner is expected to remedy the noncompliance. Patio Covers: Please take an objective look at your patio cover. Is it in disrepair? If it is wood, does it need painting? Does the alumawood need wiping down? Is your patio cover visible from a common area, greenbelt, the golf course or your neighbors? We are seeing many now that are not very pleasant to look at. Eventually, we will be doing home inspections in your area. Why not freshen them up now? If your neighbor's patio wood has termites, they may fly and spread to your yard. You may want to notify the property owner of your concern. New Door and Shutter Colors: We now have a total of 22 door and shutter colors to choose from. We have added several shades of blue and green as well as reddish-orange and coral colors. The paint books are available for you to look at in the Office. Our ACC Office Staff: Colleen and Elizabeth have an enormous amount of paperwork, much of which deals with Architectural Committee actions. There are forms not only for applications, but paperwork for home inspections. And it does not stop there. If the home inspection requires work be done to a residence, there are letters and forms to mail out. Every time a reminder letter is sent out for work completion, there is more cost for paper, copier ink, envelopes and postage. All these costs add up and go into our annual budget. Please help our office staff and our community by responding to home repairs in a timely manner. Shop Murrieta: When shopping, please remember that purchases made in our city are a win-win for us. Monies are returned to our city, schools, and other local needs! Summer is Here! This may be a good time to check your outside screens. We do not want any summer bugs to get in through ripped screens. Has your roof been inspected recently? Have the winds moved any of your roof tiles? Maintain, Maintain, Maintain! It is so much cheaper in the long run to maintain your property rather than having to replace things. ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL | THE COLONY NEWS | JULY 2021 | 11 COMMITTEE NEWS
