HOW WONDERFUL IT WAS TO SEE ALL OF OUR DEAR FRIENDS AT THE JUNE MEETING! Everyone looked fantastic… the laughter, hugs, and love could be felt throughout the universe! Our wonderful caterer, Thomas Catering, will be serving Hawaiian chicken, rice pilaf, mixed vegetables, fruit, and lemon meringue pie. What could be better? It will be so good to taste their delicious dinner again! To everyone's delight, Ed Avina and his beautiful dancers, will be performing for our pleasure. Hawaii has come to Sun Lakes… instead of Sun Lakes going to Hawaii!! So wear your Hawaiian attire, the more festive the better! Where could you get such a meal and entertainment for only $17? Yearly membership is $15. If you join now, dues are only $7.50 for the half of year. Guests living outside of Sun Lakes and friends of a resident will be $20 per person. If you live in Sun Lakes, you may come as a guest one time only, and then you WILL WANT to join the club. Makes checks payable to Social Singles and drop them off at Maggie Kline's home, 650 Brooklawn Dr. (North side), (951) 797-0693, or put your check and reservation in the basket on the back table. Please make out separate checks for membership and dinner. Those that want to sit together should put their checks in one envelope. Reservations and cancellations must be in the FRIDAY BEFORE the dinner. EVENTS At the present time our activities are limited but Dorothy Rowe, in her efficient way, is working hard to get our bus trips reinstated to fantastic places. Wed., July 7: Movie, Judy, Life of Judy Garland, Ballroom, 1:30 pm. Popcorn will be served. No reservation necessary. $2. Thurs., July 22: Dinner in the Sun Lakes Restaurant. 5:30 pm. Spreading Sunshine Young at Heart The Young at Heart club has emailed its members details about a three-hour block party planned for Sat., July 10. Local favorites "Tin Man's Heart" will provide live music and attendees will bring appetizers to share as they enjoy margaritas and sangria wine while dancing and socializing. Admission is just $7.50 per person and is open to members only. New members are welcome! Our "Ocho de Mayo" golf tournament drew 56 participants. On each hole, foursomes were required to roll a die to determine which player's drive to use. All enjoyed margaritas at the turn. Tying for the best score of the day was the team of Bob and Michele Walter and Steve and Sally Jo Schwartz and the team of Mike and Kathy Weeks and Jerry and Marilyn Woodard. Second place went to Ray and LaWanda Roberson and Larry and Sheila James. Finishing third was the team of Jeff Van Haren, Dennis McKinney, Fred Richman and Michael Stone. The team of Gino De Monaco, Candi Christopher and John and Judy Jones finished fourth. Perhaps the most valuable prize — a gift certificate for golf instruction with first assistant golf pro Alex Bidelman — went to the last-place foursome comprised of golf newbies Bill and Fran Rayner and Bill and Anita Lawrence. We are planning several more activities to bring our members together for the kind of fun and camaraderie for which our events are famous. These include a golf cart rally, a bocce tournament and dinner, and a unique New Year's Eve progressive dinner party, among others. Details will be emailed to all members as plans for each event are finalized. We welcome new members and annual dues are still just $10 per person. We are also open to creative new ideas for fun activities.
