Swim, Surf & Wellness Wellness: Now that the OHCC HOA has approved gatherings on the Lanai, the OHCC Swim, Surf and Wellness (SSW) Club Board is pleased to announce that the first 2021 SSW Club meeting, educational program and social activity will take place July 15. The program will focus on boosting immunity with natural remedies, such as foods, herbal supplements, and use of acupuncture, acupressure, Tai Chi and Qigong. Members of the SSW Club can come and learn about the therapeutic and health benefits of acupuncture from Kimberley Woo, Carlsbad, California licensed and NCCAOM® National Board-Certified Acupuncturist. Blood Pressure Clinics – The last Friday of each month, 1 to 3 pm, starting June 25 in CERT room, the SSW Club will sponsor free blood pressure clinics. "Happy Hour" with Wellness Speakers for SSW Club Members - will commence from 6 to 8 pm, in the Mykonos Room, the third Thursday, every,other month beginning July 15. Guests who have an interest in joining the club may pay their 2021 membership fee of $10 at the door. Doors open at 5:30 pm; refreshments will be served. Surfin' Safari Lanai Party: Stay tuned for this upcoming social event to take place early August. Reminder - Free Swim Lessons and Coaching: The SSW Club swim instructors are available to offer free swim lessons and coaching to OHCC residents for 2021. Lap Swimming: The SSW Club worked with the HOA staff to secure additional dedicated swim lanes and times, in addition to the 6 to 9 am daily times for lap swimmers. July 2021 Member Spotlight: This month the SSW Club spotlights Jim Monahan. By the time Jim graduated, he was ranked third in the state in the backstroke. After graduation, he received an athletic scholarship to UCLA and competed on the swim team alongside many future Olympians. He was named captain in his senior year and selected to the NCAA All American swim team twice. In 1967, he won the 100-yard backstroke at the PAC-8 championships.
