20 | OHCC LIVING | JULY 2021 | Happy Fourth of July! We hope you will join us to celebrate this occasion. The Golf Cart Parade is scheduled for Sat., July 3 at 10 am. Last year there was so much enthusiasm, we were taken back by the enormous response of 70 carts. Grab a cup of coffee and wave that flag. Cheer for the red, white, and blue! Our thanks to the Community Patrol for supporting this event and keeping us all safe. A map will be made available. Staff continue to enter the reservations for 2021 for already predetermined meetings and HOA business. Requests will be honored in order of priority: Community-wide events, the clubs, rehearsals, interest groups, social groups, public interest, memorials, and private parties, as listed in the Handbook of Rules and Regulations. Questions can be directed to the Event Coordinator's office at (760) 758-8772. The Lanai Canopy has been erected and will be used through Oct. 4. We received clearance from the Oceanside Fire Marshall for 133 guests under the structure, with the seating plan as submitted. Lighting and sidewalls have been added. Staff will consider additional seating outside of the canopy. We continue to make online reservations for the Racquet Courts, Bocce Courts, and the Fitness Center. The Skedda reservation system has worked quite well in keeping the scheduling going during this time. Our thanks to the Racquet and Bocce Clubs for their continued efforts. The ability to book online has been so convenient for so many. The difficult times in life can bring about change and the COVID challenge introduced new ways to disseminate information. As of this writing, it has yet to be determined if Skedda will continue but it's use is being reviewed. In the new Information Hallway, the touch screen Digital Display, is operating and filling up with new information. Staff is adding the current day's schedule, current flyers, events, and the daily Clubhouse schedule has been uploaded to the website. In the glass cabinet, adjacent to the Display are the HOA business notices and updates. The Pop-up Services continue on Mondays, 2 to 5 pm in the Overflow parking area. The caterers include: Stacy's Crepes and Chez Christophe. They both have expressed their gratitude in serving the community and we are hoping to add a couple more vendors in the very near future. Additional time for lap swimming has been added to the pool schedule. The changes have been posted on the website, at the pool, and copies are available at the Clubhouse. Water Volleyball hours have changed back to 3 to 5 pm, MWF, through the summer months. Swimmers can access the pool and use the deep end during play. Designated lane lines are being installed on Tuesdays and Thursday from 2 to 4 pm. Lane lines are being left in the water, for lap swimmers, for longer periods but still allowing other residents to swim, float, bob, chat, and walk at the shallow end. Children's hours are Monday through Friday 11 am to 2 pm, and Saturday and Sunday 11 am to 3 pm. If everyone is willing to give a little, then, swimming with a smile becomes the norm. The Transportation Services continue with the current schedule posted on the website. There was a change to the schedule, a recommendation to drop the Carlsbad Mall destination on Tuesday mornings and adding the Carlsbad Outlets in the afternoons. The Community Services Committee decided to keep the current schedule and reevaluate the usage at a later date. "No Vacancy" Transportation will be reviewing their policies regarding mask wearing, distancing, and increasing the number of riders on board, as new information will be coming from the county. We hope you feel encouraged, and you are making plans for the future. The Clubhouse chatter is getting louder, and the reservations are coming in. Summer is finally here; the sunshine, and the warmer months will bring out the best in all of us. Laughter is America's most important export; enjoy a BBQ with family and friends, and stay safe out there. Just had to share this one: If you crossed a patriot with a curly-haired dog, what would you get? Answer: A Yankee Poodle. Happy Fourth! Recreation News By Chris Bessey, Recreation Director
