Woodchucks
The Woodchucks are back in production! Shown in the photo is
this year's assembly line for heirloom cradles that we produce with
pride.
We are making 60 cradles this year for the children of Camp
Pendleton. First, we beg or purchase scrap-wood from local cabinet
companies or hardwood vendors, then our craftsmen hand-cut
and assemble. Following that, the Woodchuck painters create the
stunning artwork, and the Sewing Club makes the creative and
colorful quilts. Beyond the sawdust, there really is a joy of giving
from many helpful people!
The Woodchucks and the OHCC Garden Club are working
together to plan a 2021 Holiday Donation Drive-Thru celebration.
The generosity of our community was shown in last year's Holiday
Donation event with the toys, bikes, gift cards, and checks for the
families of Camp Pendleton. Everything was so appreciated.
We continue to support those who so bravely serve us. Let us
know if you would like to join the greatest little wood shop this side
of the North Pole.
Silversmiths
Hopefully, we will be back in the Clubhouse with our equipment
and making lots of jewelry soon. Try your hand at making your
own jewelry or gift. We will be featuring both working with metals
(fabrication) and turning wax models into metal (lost wax casting)
— the best of both worlds. Most all jewelry that you find in jewelry
stores have been cast from wax or plastic models, rings, pendants,
pins, earrings, etc. Learn to create your own personal design out of
wax or how to make that necklace you have dreamed of, but never
found.
Burnable materials such as leaves, tiny pine cones, flowers,
insects small plastic figures, etc. can be cast and whether used as a
component in jewelry or just have as a conversation piece. Half the
fun is figuring out what you want to try.
