| OHCC LIVING | JULY 2021 | 31 Village Vets In past years many of our Ocean Hills Vets have gone on the San Diego Honor Flights. Now that air travel has become safe again, the San Diego Honor Flights are again looking for Southern California WWII and Korean War Veterans. They will be providing, at no cost to the veteran, a round trip to Washington DC, departing from San Diego. You will be treated like royalty and visit numerous sights. The first flight is scheduled for Oct. 1 to Oct. 3, 2021. For more information go to www.HonorFlightSanDiego.org or call (800) 655-6997. Our first Village Vets Meeting this year will be held at Abravanel Hall on Thurs., July 22 at 3 pm. Everyone is invited. Our Guest Speaker is Steve Dilley, Executive Director of VetArt. The VetArt program is free for veterans and provides art classes in multiple media at two nearby north county locations. Refreshments will be served at our meeting if allowed. We also hope masks will not be required at the Clubhouse. Some news from the VA. Three conditions have been added to those presumptively associated with exposure to Agent Orange during the Vietnam War. Those conditions are bladder cancer, hypothyroidism, and Parkinsons. Vietnam veterans and their survivors who have previously filed and were denied disability benefits for one of these conditions will have their cases automatically reviewed without the need to refile. They are also accepting new applications that are assumed related to Agent Orange, such as ischemic heart disease, prostate, or pancreatic cancer to provide VA health care and disability payments. Our Treasurer, Bob Smith has set up a special box inside his front gate at 5059 Dassia Way for 2021 dues. As you may be aware, we continue to provide support to our military friends even during these difficult times. Our dues are $10 per person. We intend on keeping members informed with our monthly Bugle publication both online and delivered to them, as well as meetings in Abravanel Hall with guest speakers of interest to veterans and our supporters.
