10 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JULY 2021 | Your Four Seasons Landscape Committee and Artistic Maintenance work diligently to make necessary additions and changes to keep our neighborhood beautiful and inviting. Our membership includes a wealth of botanical experts who take great pride in maintaining our desert oasis. One resource that we highly recommend for homeowners in identifying the names of plants and providing helpful information is the app Picture This, an online plant encyclopedia with an expanding data base of over 10,000 plants. You simply take a picture with your phone camera and the app quickly identifies the plant's name, with full access to plant information, plant care reminders and guides. Everything you want to know from watering frequency to pest and disease control, from literature to fun fact is at your fingertips. Picture This also provides problem causes and treatment suggestions. Exclusive consultation with experts is provided. A yearly subscription is $19.99. Work continues on the Legends rear planter areas, to trim back shrubs, shape the Podocarpus trees and clear around drains, sewer caps, utility boxes and air conditioners. There may be a pause in this activity, as the summer heat can negatively impact a plant's ability to recover from trimming. The committee will consider at our next meeting a plan for the annual tree maintenance trimming in our community. With our trees tagged with numbers, the Landscape Committee can better identify trees that are problematic, and request Artistic Maintenance to have an arborist check out trees we are concerned about. The Landscape Committee meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 1 pm at The Lodge. Residents are welcome to attend. Please check with The Lodge about any restrictions in attending the meeting in person. Landscape Committee Do Not Do Work To Your Property Without Required Approvals. DID YOU KNOW when you see improvements at other homes, that does not automatically grant you approval for similar work at your home? An ARCHITECTURAL application is still required since each home is unique and each improvement needs to be evaluated. DID YOU KNOW that your sprinkler water runoff can and does damage our private streets? All the streets inside our gates are private streets and NOT maintained by the City of Hemet. Our Facilities Committee and Board of Directors have worked very hard to keep our private streets in excellent condition. Just look around the city at other neighborhood public streets to see the remarkable difference. Remember that our homeowners association pays for all this street maintenance. The additional cost is ultimately yours and is paid from our Homeowner Association Dues. DID YOU KNOW that artificial or synthetic turf is permitted (with Architectural Review Committee approval and meeting the quality standards outlined in the Architectural Standards and Regulations)? Many Four Seasons homeowners have installed this water-saving alternative and enhanced the appearance of their homes. Like everything else, however, the synthetic turf is not without some maintenance. Weeds may grow at the edges of the turf and need to be removed, and the turf needs "sanding" from time to time to keep the synthetic grass blades upright. This is achieved at installation with sand being swept into the synthetic turf… and will need to repeated from time to time to keep the synthetic turf from looking matted, or flattened down. Additionally, the synthetic turf has a "grain" in which the synthetic blades are oriented in a specific direction. The "grain" should be pointed toward the street and not away from the street. Otherwise rain water will collect in the synthetic turf and can be trapped under the turf and potentially lead to mold. Some inexperienced installers could, and have, installed synthetic turf with the "grain" in the wrong direction. If you are considering this home modification, please supervise the installation to achieve the correct "grain" direction and improved appearance. Thank you for helping us keep our Four Seasons community safe, healthy, and beautiful. Architectural Review Committee
