| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2021 | 29 Wine Club The Sun Lakes Wine Club is moving along with plans for our first event in October. More information will be announced as we have more details ironed out for this Inaugural Event. In the meantime, the club will participate in the Sun Lakes Summer Games in a fun competition on Tues., Aug. 3 from 10 am to noon at the South Clubhouse patio. The competition will be tossing ice cubes into plastic wine glasses from a distance of approximately three feet. Winners will be determined by the number of ice cubes you can successfully get into the wine glasses. Absolutely no skill required, just the desire to have fun! In addition, we hope you will attend the Awards Ceremony that will be held on Aug. 7 in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom at 2 pm. In addition to the awarding of medals, there will be great Sun Lakes' entertainment and light refreshments. Not a member of the Wine Club yet? Membership applications are available in the Main Clubhouse information rack located next to the reception desk. For more info, contact President Karen Clavelot at (951) 330-0531. Sun Lakes Playhouse had their first potluck and it was great to see everyone's smiling faces. Our club is in the process of planning our activities for the rest of the year. Auditions were held last month for our upcoming Magnificent Mystery Mansion, a "who dunnit" dinner theater show, directed by George Meldrum. Performances will be held Oct. 28 to Oct. 31. The cast has been chosen and rehearsals will begin this month. More information will be forthcoming by George at our monthly meetings. Ken Clark will be our director for That's Entertainment in February. The members have selected the theme for this year's show: 100- year celebration of the "Speakeasy." We are looking forward to the new ideas he will bring to the show. If you are interested in dancing in this production, contact Susan Fitzpatrick at (951) 769-0801 or susanfitz143@gmail.com. The acting class, taught by Mary Flynn, was a huge success. Twenty actors benefitted from all the exercises and audition preparation. Please add your name to her waiting list for future classes by contacting Mary at mflynn2006@msn.com. Our meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. If you have an interest in acting, helping backstage — especially for our October production — or volunteering for other jobs, or just curious about what we do, come join us. It is a good time to check us out. Join our Facebook group "Sun Lakes Playhouse" for more information as it happens. For membership information, please contact Martha Steggell at (951) 769-3217. Int'l Culture Club We're keeping our fingers crossed that we will be able to have both a dinner and a dance for our Aug. 12 event. The ICC Board is doing their best to make this happen. Sign-ups for the August event will take place on Aug. 5 from 3 to 4 pm at the North Clubhouse. You will make your dinner selection at the time of the reservation and the price is $25 per member. Members who paid for the March 2020 dinner, which was canceled due to COVID, will not be charged to attend the August event. When we know more details about the menu, we will get the information out to the membership on Channel 97 and on Good Day Sun Lakes. The dinner and dance will be from 5:30 to 9:30 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom on Aug. 12. The theme is Summer Days and we will be dancing to the music of American Made. With a summertime theme, attendees can wear summer attire including shorts. Not a member? ICC has a program which allows any resident to attend an event, with a reservation, one time before you join. Come to the North Clubhouse on Aug. 5 between 3 and 4 pm with a check payable to ICC for $28 per person to make your meal selection and be assigned a table. For more information contact Evelyn Hawkins at (951) 845-7199, Martie Steggell at (951) 769-3217, or Donna Leone at (951) 797-0832.
