| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2021 | | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2021 | 63 63 Sun Lakers at Canyon Lanes We are in August and things are heating up. The weather is hot but the alley is so cool. It is way too hot for golf but the temperature here is just right. Beat the heat and go bowling. Besides nobody ever lost their ball in a bowling alley. We have three teams fighting for first. In first place is Ageless Wonders with: Sue Torres, Loren Pitz, Jim Edmiston and a vacant. In second place is In the Hunt with: Jon Skaggs, Lil McLean, Bob McLean and Mike Sheptenko. In third place is Just Lucky with Marlene Gartman, Michael Cram, Lawrence Conner and Larry Stormes. High scores for the season for the men are: Diesel Phelps with a Scratch Series of 759 and Andy Toro with a Scratch series of 759, Rick Vieville with a Scratch Game of 278, Sandy Hepburn with a Handicap Series of 744 and Leo Gagnon with a Handicap Game of 291. High scores for the season for the women are Jazz Burkett with a Scratch Series of 570, Theresa Frelix with a Scratch Game of 225, Sherley Bourland with a Handicap Series of 728 and Betty Jo Page with a Handicap Game of 276. If you would like to bowl with us we would love to have you. Come as a single or as a team of four; we are looking for new bowlers for our fall league. If you are interested please call Teri at (760) 217-9656. We are a mixed handicap league, must have one woman on your team. We have a singles tournament coming up soon, but you can join even if you are married. There is no activity while the facilities are closed, but when they reopen… Do you enjoy playing the billiard game of 8 Ball? If you do, come join us. All Sun Lakes residents are welcome to practice with us Mondays through Saturdays. We normally draw for partners at noon, then play to around 2 pm. There is no cost to join our group. However, if you elect to join a team, there is a $15 competition fee per three-month season. Eight teams compete every Thursday; four at 9 am and the other four at 1 pm in our Main Clubhouse Billiards Room. For a fun afternoon of friendly competition, come watch us play. For more information, please contact Tom Hyatt at (909) 908-7533 or email THYATTREALTY@ gmail.com. Bocce Ball is being played in spite of the heat. Fortunately we have a big tree partly between the sun and the courts and it certainly helps. On Mondays and Wednesdays we play only at 5 and 6 pm. Had we known how hot it was going to be, we could have made that 6 and 7 pm, or even 7 and 8 pm! Hindsight is 20/20, I guess. Anyway, we're well under way. We have three weeks left in the Summer Tournament, with playoffs the week of Aug. 23 and 24. Looking ahead to the Fall Tournament, sign ups must be in by Aug. 28. Play begins the week of Sept. 13. I suspect we'll need all four days this time, Monday through Thursday. The usual plan is to begin play in September at 5, 6, 7 and 8 pm, since it's still pretty hot at this time, then go to our usual fall hours, 3, 4, 5, and 6 pm. Keep an eye out for the September bocce article in Lifestyles for any changes we may have to make, and on your email. By the way, the Fall Tournament runs 10 weeks and ends the week of Nov. 15 with playoffs the 22nd and 23rd, just in time to celebrate Thanksgiving! Questions, call Dutch at (951) 845-0392. Friends of Bocce
