| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | AUGUST 2021 | 15 Four Seasons Needs Community Emergency Response Teams Volunteers Street Captain: In Four Seasons, we call a fully trained and equipped Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteer called a "Street Captain." Street Captain CERT training is 20 hours duration on a Friday evening and a full day Saturday and Sunday. It is free. The CERT program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire ember suppression, light search and rescue, and first-aid. We are told Fire and EMS personnel will be overwhelmed and will be significantly delayed in a disaster. In the meantime, we're on our own. Through CERT, the capabilities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters is built and enhanced. Upon training completion, you will be awarded a certificate plus a basic CERT go kit including a backpack, vest, N95 mask, goggles, a hard-hat with a CERT logo, and more. The training will better equip you to protect yourself, your family, and your Four Seasons neighbors. Again, it's free. The additional equipment needed is an inexpensive two-way walkie-talkie radio. Throughout the year, at occasional exercises, Street Captains are asked to participate to practice our response to a theoretical disaster. The qualifications for Street Captain are mobility to move house to house for about a half-mile, sight sufficient to get a driver's license, English-speaking, and reasonable health. You need access to email and the internet plus a cell phone for text messages. We take all comers, rich-man, poor-man, beggar man, thief. Okay, scratch thief. Join the next class on Fri., Aug. 27 from 5 to 9 pm, and Aug. 28 and 29, from 8 am to 4 pm, held at the Four Seasons Lodge. We encourage all attendees to be vaccinated. Register by calling Paul O'Neill at (805) 552-6102 now. Seats are limited, so do it now. There will be no other training opportunities for many months. CERT Auxiliary: A CERT auxiliary is a disaster-day-only volunteer. These auxiliaries agree to report for duty on the day of a disaster. They don't participate in training or practice as do Street Captains. They agree to be responsive to text or other communication on the day of a disaster, report to a predetermined location, dress properly, and work under the guidance of a trained Street Captain. They may serve as a scribe, survey the area for Help Needed signs, record the nature of the help needed, help with extricating a victim to a safe place to await EMS, comfort victims, transport victims and/or equipment, or other duties. Many volunteers will use the skills they learned throughout prior life: heavy equipment operator, fireman, nurse, social worker, carpenter, and so on. Everyone can help… even you. They are crucial to our response at Four Seasons. No CERT volunteer, Street Captain or Auxiliary, will be required to do something they feel uncomfortable with. You can make a difference. Become a brother or sister in our elite community where we look out for you and yours in times of disaster and expect the same in return. Become a CERT volunteer. Do it now! Emergency preparedness committee Facilities Committee What makes Four Seasons of Hemet an exceptional adult community? • A caring and discerning Board of Directors • A productive and progressive management team • A group of volunteer residents with a passion to make difference Every resident has the opportunity to enhance our unique environment by supporting the decisions made by our Board of Directors and by participating as a committee member. If you are interested in volunteering and would like to share your experience and skill, the Facilities Committee would like to hear from you. The purpose of the Facilities Committee is to create, implement and maintain a Facility Maintenance Program that will progressively improve our community. Our objective is to monitor the need for maintenance, repairs and upgrades to the common areas and facilities. We also review cost options, contracts, and make recommendations to the Board of Directors. The Facilities Committee meets twice a month on Wednesday at 9 am. Listed below are some highlights for discussion on the meeting agenda: • Homeowner Input – Residents wanting to address the committee with concerns • Report on the monthly maintenance inspection performed by committee members • Report by management on work orders and project tracking • Progress report on ongoing projects and un-finished business • New business items • Long-term projects • Recommendations to the Board of Directors In addition to participating in the meetings, teams of two members perform a specified maintenance inspection twice a year. Once a year, each member has the privilege to compose the monthly Facilities Committee Newsletter featured in the Four Seasons Hemet Herald Magazine. If you would like to serve with us on the Facilities Committee, feel free to talk with any member. You can request a Committee Volunteer Form from The Lodge front desk. VOLUNTEER
