| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | AUGUST 2021 | 11 Happy August everyone. I can't believe there are not any holidays to celebrate in the month of August! Let's review last month's wonderful extravaganza on July 3, celebrating our country's independence and laws that allow us the unmitigated freedom to choose our way in life's adventures, whether right or wrong. Some very smart men worked long and hard to get it worded correctly and put it down on paper, and all so that we can enjoy the benefits of their work. I know another group of smart people — our Social Committee, who gave many hours of thought, time and effort into making our celebration an outstanding success. It stretched from EARTH bound horse-riding sheriffs to the SKY born bi-wing pilot making three passes over us. We pledged our allegiance to our flag, our military was honored as each branch of service presented their flags, and we teared up when TAPS was played. Once the ceremonial part of the evening was completed, the music, dancing and celebrating got into full swing. We thank you for coming and enjoying the event, and appreciate those volunteers who made it happen. Even the weather contributed — warm with a gentle breeze; only God's responsible for that. We served 369 meals of barbecued ribs and chicken, baked beans and cornbread, coleslaw, potato salad and cake. Residents picked up a box and a bag and sat down to enjoy. The Bistro Committee was able to contribute a few hours on Saturday morning helping to fill cold cartons and bagging the cold foods in paper sacks. My personal thanks to them for volunteering when their help was requested. Not only was this event the largest number of people we have fed, but the boxed and bagged food also was a test run. People seemed to like it because of the speed of the food service. We always enjoy your comments; that is how we know if things are working to everyone's advantage. I hope you saw the Herald's coupon for "Free Brunch for Two." Please note you have three Sundays to use before expiration. ALSO, please remember now that guests may be invited. The rule is ONLY SIX GUESTS per household at brunch and Friday night specials! In the past, tables got reserved and ended up not being used, thus residents were turned away because of seating shortage. PLEASE continue to make a reservation for these events, but AGAIN, please cancel if you will not be using some or all of your reservation. After all, that's just being a good and thoughtful neighbor! We are getting requests for "Celebrations of Life" events for the many dear friends that have left us this past 18 months, and other committees are already preparing plans for holiday parties. If you are thinking about a party, get your Ballroom reservation in soon. There are two "Music on the Plaza" events scheduled in August. So until next month.
