FOUR SEASONS SPOTLIGHT You Can Compete for Your Gold Medal! By Eileen Gilbert-Antoine Are you interested in walking, swimming, lawn bowling, 5K or 10K running, volleyball, basketball, bowling, soccer, pickleball, tennis, track and field, racquetball, softball, horseshoes, lawn bowling, high jump, javelin, pole vault, long jump, cycling, power lifting, badminton, ballroom dance, billiards, rope climbing, shuffleboard, table tennis, disc golf, racquetball, pinochle, or poker? If at least one of these events interests you, then California offers several competitions to display your talents and win medals. Ask any of the many Four Seasons residents who have already won. The Pasadena Senior Games, held every year in May and June, offers many of the above events. This is one of the biggest events in the state for seniors, as Pasadena is the qualifier to continue on to national competition. Most events are divided into age groups from 55 to 60, 61 to 65, 66 to 70, 71 to 75, and older. Four Seasons residents have traditionally done very well in past Senior Olympics: Eugene and Zelyne Rudolph have won medals in ballroom dance, Zelyne Rudolph won several medals in swimming, Eileen Gilbert and Pete Antoine brought back a silver medal in ballroom dance, Randy Cook brought home the gold in bench press, Loren DuChesne won a gold in bench press, Dick Barnaby medaled in softball and discus, Nancy Barnaby medaled in track and field and Pete Antoine has won gold medals in track and field, basketball and bench press. On June 1, Pete Antoine won a silver medal in track and field Four Seasons' residents participate in the competitions 6 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2013 | community News for the power walk; he followed it up the next day with a gold medal in bench press, lifting 255 pounds. Several of our Ping Pong Club members competed in mid-June. Look for their successes in the August issue of the Breeze. A little closer to Beaumont, however, is the Hemet "Oldlympics." The Oldlympics event is sponsored by the Hemet Recreation Center in October. Track and field and weight lifting are held at the area high schools, and billiards, swimming, poker, and other events are held at various senior venues in Hemet. An amazing awards banquet marks the culmination of the Oldlympics, at which winners are awarded their medals and a lovely dinner is served. The word is spreading about the Hemet Oldlympics and several enthusiastic residents are in training for the power walks and runs, basketball, poker, bench press and billiards. Previous successful Four Seasons athletes in the Oldlympics include Margaret Ramirez with many gold medals in swimming, Jim Cochran with gold medals in track and field, Niles Sundstrom medaling in ping pong, Randy Balt bringing home the gold in swimming and Pete Antoine who medaled in track and field, basketball and bench press. In training for the Oldlympics 2013 are Hilario and Gracy Luna, Sharon and Larry Chase, Pete Antoine, Niles Sundstrom, Don Fant, Laurie Larson and several of the men in the Billiards for Fun Group who are not yet officially committed.
