COMMUNITY BULLETIN BOARD | THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2021 | 25 I've had terrific response to my request last month for gently- used ballgowns, tuxedos, fancy formal accessories (purses, cummerbunds, dressy shoes, etc.) in preparation for the Marine Corps Birthday Balls held throughout the base on Nov. 10. The gowns and tuxes are offered free at an open house sponsored by the Camp Pendleton YMCA for the Marine spouses who cannot afford to purchase a tux or ballgown for these special events. I've already filled my car a few times (remember this is written early in the month to make a deadline), and it looks like I may exceed that in August. I know we have many new residents who might have some items to donate in an attempt to downsize. I will pick up at your home and deliver the items to Camp Pendleton, where the "Y" has set up a showroom for display and distribution. Because the word is out about the Pendleton gown giveaway, Marine Corps Bases Twentynine Palms and Yuma will also receive gowns from this event. The cut-off date for the collection is Wednesday, Sept. 1. Thank you for your continued support. Please call me to book your pick-up date. Ball Gowns & Formal Attire Donations The Ronald McDonald House of the Inland Empire gives families a "home away from home" while their children receive medical treatment at Loma Linda University Children's Hospital and other nearby hospitals, no matter their ability to pay. The Colony HOA and St. Martha's Catholic Church have partnered together and donated 46,500 pull tabs in April 2021 toward this effort, as well as donating tens of thousands of tabs over the years. The pull tabs are aluminum tops from cans of soda and other beverages which are recycled to pay for the day- to-day operations of the Ronald McDonald House. Most of the children are in critical condition, making it very important that the family be near their ill child. Your donations make a difference! Please bring your pull-tab contributions to me in the HOA Office any weekday from 8:30 am to 5 pm. Special thanks to John and Marty Tighe, who collect for St. Martha's, and to the Founders of the Ronald McDonald House Pull Tabs Collection here at The Colony, Marge Miller and her late husband, Dick Miller.
