38 | THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2021 | CLUB NEWS By Sharon Smith, 760-8142 "Yee-haw!" or "Howdy!" were nightly greetings as we gathered around campfires on our June road trip to Tahoe Valley Campground in Lake Tahoe. Our western theme allowed us to go a little crazy with decorations, costumes and evening activities. All 34 of us were corralled on our mini 'ranch' for our first meet 'n greet night. We played an old game of "Name that Tune" with snippets from old time Western movies and TV recalling program trivia. Are you humming yet? We wore our star-shaped name badges the whole week (even away from the ranch!), and reports came back of strangers greeting us with, "Well, hi, Sheriff!" Nights were chilly, but spirits were high as we shared our day adventures around the fires. Traditional games of LRC, Shut the Box and Bingo, along with snacks, kept us entertained. Our one evening meal together involved the menfolk barbecuing and womenfolk preparing traditional fixins'. You could almost hear Cookie calling, "Come and get it!" Songs like Home on the Range and Country Roads brought back nostalgic memories. While watching the movie City Slickers, we felt the cattle thunder through our camp. Of course, we had our own practice steer head to lasso! Laurie Freres won that contest. Others competed at Corn Hole, and Alvie Kracik led us in several line dances out in front of our camp. Daytime-scheduled activities included Karen Alonzo directing a Sip 'n Paint class of sunflowers, bike rides by the lake and to a meadow. Our 'cowhands' also moseyed around Tahoe or relaxed in their own 'bunk house' back at the ranch. Singing Happy Trails our last evening reflected a week of making new 'pardners' and exploring new territories. The deadline to sign up and commit for the Flying Flags trip is Thursday, Aug. 5. Please contact Laurie at laflls1@ sbcglobal.net if you have not yet paid your deposit. "Happy trails to you, 'til we meet again!" Roadrunners RV Club Clogging is a type of folk dance in which the dancer's footwear is used percussively by striking the heel, the toe or both against the floor to create audible rhythms. It is a cross between tap dance and line dance. New classes begin on Tuesday, Sept. 7, from 4:30 to 6 pm in the Auditorium. The class for Beginners is from 4:30 to 5:15 pm, with Intermediates from 5:15 to 6 pm. Beginners are welcome to stay for the whole class if they wish. The first class is FREE so you can try before you buy. After that, it is $5 per class with a great instructor. All you need are soft leather-bottomed shoes. Clogging is a FUN way to exercise your body and brain. Studies show that dancing is a major tool in the fight against Alzheimer's and dementia. If you're interested, please give me a call.
