By Diane Schultz, Jodi Harris, Marsha Tobolski and Gloria Brosky FLAGS, BIG AND SMALL It is so nice to see the beautiful, colorful flags around our community. Please replace them, especially our country's flag, if they are tattered, worn and dirty or damaged by the sun. PAINT APPLICATIONS When submitting a paint application, please identify your color choices by using the color scheme number and letters, i.e., 8A, 8B, 8C. Please be specific. Instead of writing "white," write the shade of white you are using. If you wish to paint your house the same color but it is not in our new paint book, it would be helpful if you would find a similar color in the new book. This helps us when we are looking over your application. If you have not painted your house in seven to 10 years, it is probably a good idea to get estimates on a new paint job! We now have a choice of 22 door and shutter colors to go along with our 20 color schemes. HOME INSPECTIONS We understand no one likes to receive a letter asking you to fix something after a home inspection, and understand you feel we are being nitpicky. PLEASE understand that when we point out those small rust spots on metal gates or rust stains coming from your rain gutters onto your stucco, for example, we are doing it in hopes that you would want to be informed of a small problem before it grows into a larger one. Not correcting small problems will lead to higher costs in repair. Once a home inspection is completed, you will receive a letter of the findings in the mail. You then have 30 days to submit an application for the repair work and 60 days to complete the work. If not completed within the time span, the matter will then become a violation unless you have appealed to the Board with extenuating circumstances that require an extension. When you have completed the work, please notify the office so a final inspection can be made and the paperwork can be finalized. PAVERS COMING SOON The ACC was slowed by COVID, but we now have been able to visit building materials stores to complete our work with adding pavers and stamped concrete to our list of home improvement upgrades available to Colony residents. The committee coordinated pavers with our paint book to come up with a collection to present to the Board in August. When approved, the office will have a binder, similar to the veneer binder, to help you with your selection choices. COST OF PAPERWORK Everyone complains when Association dues increase, so how can you help keep costs down? When you receive a home inspection repair letter, it consists of a few pages with pictures using copier paper and ink. This is then mailed to you using an envelope and stamp. While most homeowners comply with the repairs, there are some who need several reminders, and that is more paperwork and postage. All of this adds up and comes back to you and all homeowners as dues increases. Please follow the guidelines for repair. Better yet, please consider maintaining your home before mailings are necessary. BACK YARD WROUGHT IRON Please remember that no lattice, wire or foliage should be outside your wrought iron fence in the rear of your home. These items should be on the inside of your fence. Each lovely community begins with caring homeowners. Thanks to those who do their part! ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL | THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2021 | 19 COMMITTEE NEWS
