| OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2021 | 31 Village Vets Our first general OHCC Village Vets Club meeting this year was held in July featuring our Guest Speaker, Steve Dilley, Executive Director of VetArt. A program available free to all veterans. For our Aug. 26 Village Vets Club meeting, our guest speaker will be the most famous pilot you never heard of. He is Vista resident, Alex Poddoubnyi who has a fun and interesting story. Alex, a Ukrainian (not Russian!) defected from the Soviet Union in 1991 while ferrying cargo through San Diego. He is an accomplished pilot and successful businessman. In the Soviet Union he was very famous and admired during his flying career. He is the youngest Antonov test pilot ever and was one of the first crews over Chernobyl. He was the first Antonov 225 test pilot: yes, that big airplane. Come and meet an amazing guy. This Village Vets Meeting be held at Abravanel Hall on Thurs., Aug. 26 at 3 pm. All are invited. Refreshments will be served at our meeting. We are also planning to have our member's holiday party this year on Sat., Dec. 11 with live music, Marines and Navy guests attending at each table, as we have had in years past. So please hold the date open and we will have more details soon. For 2021 Village Vets membership, you can pay by check at the Clubhouse front desk, or Treasurer, Bob Smith has set up a special box inside his front gate at 5059 Dassia Way for 2021 dues. As you may be aware, we have continued to provide support to our military friends during this year. Our dues are $10 per person. Please include your phone number or email on your check so we can contact you for any additional information, please mark it "2021 dues." We also continue to provide our monthly Bugle publication both online and delivered to homes, as well as meetings in Abravanel Hall with guest speakers of interest to veterans and our supporters. bingo At long last bingo is resuming play. Many of you faithful (and maybe some newbies) can play on a monthly basis from until Oct. 16. The play is the same as previously. We open the doors at 6:30 pm and start promptly at 7 pm. The price continues at $8 for 10 games with you playing six cards per game. Of course, the ice cream bars at intermission are included. Pay outs per game typically range from $80 to $250. However, if you are lucky on our final blackout game, you could go home with as much as $1,000. Come join us on the following dates: Aug. 21, Sept. 21, and Oct. 16.
