| OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2021 |23 Choral Society Boomers Connection The Ocean Hills Choral Society Board has been hard at work establishing progress. It's so exciting to finally be able to publish these plans, along with the dates and times of our upcoming rehearsals and performances. In addition, we want to make you aware of a few leadership changes. We extend a welcome to all of our current members, and we'd like to invite anyone who might be interested or even curious about being in the Chorale. At this time, we are limiting participation in the Chorale to those who have been vaccinated. Our first priority is to protect, as best we can, all members in our choir community. Our first rehearsal is on Thurs., Sept. 2. Please come and join us. We have some extraordinary music already programed for our first concert on Sun., Dec. 12 at 2 pm. Our rehearsals will be in Abravenel Hall every Thursday morning at 10:30 am. Our dress rehearsal will be Thursday morning Dec. 9. The board would like to thank our former President, Debbie Vanourkerk, for her hard work over the past years she has served as president. We are also excited to welcome our new president, Jean Hefler, who will generously bring her gifts to our organization. We would like to thank Gail Burnett, our former director, for her energy and her leadership. Our new director will be Beverly Taylor, who has directed school and church choirs for nearly 40 years. We're pleased that Gail will continue with us as the assistant director. Thank you, Ocean Hills Choral Society Board I'm so excited to be appointed as the new director of the Ocean Hills Chorale. The silence we have all endured through this difficult season has been deafening. As your director, I am truly looking forward to meeting all of you and enhancing our lives and our community as we communicate together through the most beautiful language on earth. Here's to the start of a fresh, new season! ~ Beverly Taylor The Palm Court is reserved for the first Friday of each month through November from 5 to 8 pm, weather permitting. To participate, please send an email to: ohccboomers@gmail. com and provide the name(s) of those from your household who would like to be included in future notices. Once you are on the email list, you do not need to send reservations. As this is a potluck event, please bring a dish to share with about eight to 10 others, i.e., salad, entree, casserole, hot dish, dessert, etc. along with a serving utensil. Bring your own beverages, dishes, utensils, napkins, etc. If you do not wish to share community style, please bring your own meal. If there are cancellations due to conflicts/bad weather; or, if there are new dates, notice will be sent to those on the current email list. And, PLEASE, wear your name tag or badge. We're looking forward to becoming reacquainted with the Boomers! ~ Marylu Belisle (952) 454-1931. We are very excited that our first meeting for the year will be on Mon., Sept. 13, in Abravanel Hall. Our "meet and greet" will start at 6:30 pm; followed by our meeting starting at 7 pm. Our guest speaker will be Will Reece from AFC Vacations. AFC Vacations is the local leader in affordable, leisurely-paced, worldwide group vacations. Through the years, Travel Club members have enjoyed hearing from AFC about future trips they have planned. We hope to see you there! And, even if you are not a member, but would like to learn more about our Club, please join us! We are planning now for trips later this year and into 2022. We do want to let you know about two trips. Please "Save the Date"… Thurs., Dec. 16. We hope to conduct one of the Travel Club's favorite trips - sightseeing the holiday lights throughout the San Diego area. We will keep you updated and publish a trip flyer as soon as we confirm the details of this trip. We are still assessing kicking off 2022 by going to the Rose Bowl Parade with DayTrippers on New Year's Day, Jan. 1. We have already received a good response to this trip, but still need a few more to meet a minimum of 35 people to have our own OHCC bus. We would be picked up around 5 am here in our Overflow Parking Lot and driven to the Parade. The bus parks less than one block from the stand where our seats will be. We expect the cost to be around $245; an additional $5 for non-members. There is no payment due at this time. If you think you would go on this trip, please send a note to dswginca@aol.com. We are really looking forward to seeing you at our first meeting on Mon., Sept. 13! ~ Your Travel Club Board, Judy Harris, Donna Wessel-Graham, Lynn Opelka, Callie Dean, and Judy Buoniconti Travel Club
