Racquet Club With the lifting of COVID restrictions at the courts came the surprise announcement from the Master Board cutting off funding for the Skedda reservation software required to comply with pandemic contact tracing. But what followed was an unexpected groundswell of support from residents for maintaining a reasonably priced reservation system and a decision by the Master Board to maintain this amenity. Management of the Skedda system will transition over the summer to the HOA, according to Racquet Club board member Dave Johnson who has been running it for the racquet sports since its May 2020 introduction. This is a win-win for all residents who now have multiple options for playing on our newly renovated courts. The booking website can now be accessed from the Recreation Department website as well as from the following link: www.ohcccracquetclub.skedda.com All residents (and their guests) who use the courts are reminded that wearing proper footwear at the courts is playing it safe – running shoes are discouraged; choose non-marking court shoes for your own protection. In the summer sun, make sure to apply plenty of sunscreen, wear a cap or visor, and stay hydrated! There are drinking fountains at each court. Please do not bring beverages other than water onto the courts. And for pickleball players, you're welcome to use and return the balls in the tubes, so you don't have to supply your own. Looking for a reason to get out of the house after dinner? Try badminton on alternating Wednesday evenings this summer. Pickleball got its start on a badminton court, so our Clubhouse courts are the perfect venue for instruction (if you need it) and play; equipment is provided. And if the long-handled racquets are unwieldy for you, there are shorter "speedminton" racquets to try. Racquet Club members will enjoy the return of the summer dinner/dance on the Lanai on Aug. 11. After more than a year of being cooped up with no OHCC gatherings permitted, social chairs Pele Pyle and Laura Urban chose a jungle theme that will allow those who get tickets through the party lottery to "unleash their wild side" under the stars.
