News Briefs EPAP ANIMAL RESCUE We are reorganizing and would like to re-introduce ourselves: WHO ARE WE? A group of people who care very much for animals and the community. WHAT DO WE DO? We volunteer our time to help reunite a lost pet with his or her owner. HOW DO WE DO IT? • A group e-mail with a picture (if available) is sent to our membership to alert anyone who might recognize the animal. • The same message and picture is posted on the Country Club's message board. • In the meantime, the animal is placed in our new kennels during the search, or • We try to find a "foster family" who will keep the pet until the owner is found. • If an owner cannot be located, then we try to have the dog adopted using the same means of communication as well as using the word of mouth as much as possible We need more help! Please join us! WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO BE A MEMBER? If you share our love of animals… FREE membership MEETINGS: Informative, and only once every other month. Pamphlets about animal's well-being are often displayed and passed out. We have guests speakers at most meetings to answer questions and speak on a variety of topics involving animal needs. The guest speaker for July 15, is Terri Dimorino. She is a judge at dog shows, as well as a certified groomer. She will have information on how best to handle your pet in an emergency. Flyers with more information can be found in the reception area of the Main Clubhouse or you may call 769-4934. We hope to see you on July 15. DINING The renovation of the Sandwedge is scheduled to begin on July 8, and is expected to take 120 days. Since the veranda is now a food service venue, smoking is prohibited within 25 feet. Signs have been posted. advisory COMMITTEE VOLUNTEERS Committees are accepting applications from interested volunteers all year. Applications are available at the Main Clubhouse Reception Desk. Committees are listed on page two in this Lifestyles. 4 | sun lakes lifestyles | july 2013 | community news Delegate Assembly Report Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly There are 23 districts in our complex at Sun Lakes Country Club. Usually each month the residents receive a newsletter from their District Delegate. More often than not, there is a reservation form attached for an event in their district. It might be a pot luck dinner, a dinner dance, a hot dog and ice cream social, a golf tournament, bingo and on and on. What do you do with it? Most of the residents throw it away or don't even look at it. The District Staff, Delegate, Alternate Delegate, Zone Captains, and Social Committees all work very hard to plan and stage an event for the district. The dates are established a year in advance. This is necessary because we have 23 Districts, and over 80 clubs and groups and the Recreation Department all looking for event dates. All the work is done for the benefit of our residents but less than half bother to attend. It has become necessary for districts to combine with other districts to have enough reservation to make it worthwhile to stage the event. Many times the district has to cancel the event for the lack of reservations. Sun Lakes Country Club is one of the most Active Adult Communities anywhere. When we decided to move here from our old neighborhoods, we were aware of all of the amenities at Sun Lakes. And yet, there are residents who haven't seen the inside of our clubhouses or our restaurants, or used the pools or attend a district party. We realize there are residents who can't get around very well, but certainly not half of our community. When you consider that most districts have events every three or four months, maybe four or five or six a year, there must be an event that would be fun to attend. We are a close knit community, and most people appreciate having neighbors and friends who care about each other. So what is the matter with our people? Have we become so jaded or tired of participating that we would rather stay locked up in our home watching TV? If it is a matter of having different events instead of the same old thing, all you have to do is tell the District Delegate your suggestions, and they will come up with some new and different events. We are honored to be associated with the hard working District Delegates who take care of their residents and try to plan events that will be of interest to them. We will continue to plan party after party and hope our people will begin to want to join their neighbors and friends and have fun. That is why most of us moved here in the first place, to enjoy retirement with our friends. If you have any questions or concerns, please call me.
